Club Sandwiches - A Brief Dissertation

No thread about club sandwiches is complete without this Mitch Hedberg bit: “I order the club sandwich all the time, but I'm not even a member, man. I don't know how I get away with it. How'd it start anyway? "I like my sandwiches with three pieces of bread." "So do I!" "Well let's form a...

What They DON'T Teach Kids is Amazing

This is false. A car is a safe place in a lightning strike, but not because of anything to do with the rubber tires. The metal frame of the car essentially forms what's called a Faraday Cage, which is an enclosure that blocks the entrance of electro-magnetic fields. In a lightning strike, a...

    FVF - Curious First Impressions

This is one of the best straight VAs out there, particularly once one figures out how to dry and smoke it. If you get a chance try some with some age (I recommend 5-7 yrs at least). The flakes get very very dark, almost jet black, and the richness and smoothness is amplified. I dunno about...

The (Un)Official PipesMagazine Secret Santa Thread 2022!

Enjoy, my man! Apologies that it didn't make it in time for X-mas. I had a crazy busy December at work. THANK YOU for everything you sent a couple of weeks ago. I didn't realize it until I was addressing your box, but it appears we were assigned each other. Happy New Year to you and...

The (Un)Official PipesMagazine Secret Santa Thread 2022!

The eagle has landed! It actually landed over the weekend but between work and family arriving in town I have not had a spare moment to take a pic or even spend any time on the forums. And my secret Santa (who covered their tracks well. I have no idea who sent these!) hit it out of the...

    Sad News, Harris Has Passed

That's a damn shame. So sorry, Mark, and condolences to his family. Harris was one of those larger-than-life personalities on this forum, and I always enjoyed reading his posts, even (or maybe especially) when I didn't agree with him. He seemed on this forum to be a great guy, and his...

Exchange Rates Effect on Whisky in U.S.

Just as it has here. Some Bourbon/Rye whiskies are almost double the price they used to be, and some that used to be regularly available are nearly impossible to find now. There's a huge boom right now, partially driven by collection/speculative investing. People are spending 1500 dollars...

The Most Moronic Thing You’ve Ever Done

I am not going to reveal the most moronic thing. Too personal. But screwing around in undergrad and getting myself kicked out twice is up there. It took me until I was 31 to finish and I basically lost about a decade of my career. Since then, I've gone on to get two more degrees and I'm...

Exchange Rates Effect on Whisky in U.S.

This is true in my observation. It does appear that prices on Scottish single malts have decreased somewhat (that does NOT seem to be the same for American whiskeys such as Bourbon), but overall prices in the US are quite a bit higher than they were 5-10 years ago.

***What are You Smoking, April 2022?***

Having a bowl of match Victorian in a Randy Wiley bent Dublin. It’s a warm night in southern Ohio and life is good!

Tell Me about Sutliff Match Victorian

After reading this thread, I was inspired to have my first bowl of this in about 8 months. This batch was purchased in early 2020. Even tastier than I remember!

    McClelland 2025

I think a number of blending houses have tried to make an “equivalent” blend to the seminal Virginia blends from McClelland, but nothing really comes close to capturing certain aspects of those blends. The tobaccos McClelland used as well as the way they processed those tobaccos was totally...

Chinese Pipes….Anyone Ever Smoke a Good One?

Yep. This one started out questionable and has now veered fully into lockable territory.

    Must try G.L. Pease?

Everyone else has mentioned my favorites (Cairo, Embarcadero, Windjammer, and especially Fillmore) but one that hadn’t been mentioned that I enjoy is Sextant. An excellent navy/Latakia blend. I haven’t had much from Greg I haven’t liked.

    Tobacco Smoking Question

This. The correct answer to the "hipster" BS is "Well, I'll be the Hipster without the tracheotomy, thank you very much."

    Tobacco Smoking Question

I try not to care too much about what strangers think of me as long as I am not infringing upon them in some way. If these are your friends, then maybe you need to get new ones? To answer your question though, there are many in this forum who will partake of pretty much any form of tobacco...
