Just smoked a bowl. I was very impressed. A very good blend. I will likely cellar pretty deeply on this one. It checks a lot of boxes.

Is the blend easy to work with? Pack easy, light easy? Check
Does the blend taste great? Check
Can the blend be readily obtained for a fair price? Check
Does the blend deliver an ample dose of nicotine? Check
Is the room note pleasing to others? (Who the heck cares!) Check

I have a love/hate relationship with this blend. Last night I realized it's the perique. For some reason it gives me a black cavendish feel in my mouth. When I plucked out the perique, I found that was what I was really after. I really really love the base of this blend, and would buy that in bulk if I knew what it was. I like perique, but for some reason, this one doesn't do it for me.

Plucking the perique out of a VaPer seems a little odd, but whatever works for ya😉

I go through binges/burnout cycles with Match Victorian, same as I do with their 515-RC-1 red Virginia. It does press into great little pucks. I like to give it a “boil in bag” treatment for an hour or so, then press it while warm and gooey.

Got several pounds of Victorian in my cellar. Good stuff. Not overly spicy, not too mild, kinda in the middle for me. As the name states, it's almost identical to Elizabethan Mixture. And since it's available in bulk, it's worth stoking up on in my opinion.

I've been sampling all sorts of the Sutliff Match series and can't say a bad word about any of them.
For value and quality this is the way to go in general. I like having several old school blends in the cellar at a fraction of their tinned role model's cost.

Another recommendation: buy some bulk Sutliff perique, ribbon, and play with it.

Victoria is a delightful va/per. It's pretty approachable, a bit more va than per but still is well balanced. If you've ever had Elizabethian, it's supposed to be a clone of that. I have a tin of Elizabethian but haven't had it yet, so the clone part is all second hand. (At American prices and availability) if va/pers are your jam, Victorian can do a fine job as a daily driver. With the same boilerplate, it's a more than decent first Virginia. If you're curious about cellaring, it's a good one to start with. I found it to be well behaved and tasty fresh. Again, American prices boilerplate, if you're curious at all, I wouldn't hesitate to throw an ounce in the next order.

Since the early 70’s Elizabethan has been one of my top two blends (Three Nuns was included but has dropped off for obvious reasons) and Sutliff’s Match Victorian is very close to the 70’s version. Although I do add a touch of Percy Martin’s Perique to make it (IMO) a little closer to the 70’s version. I currently have six pounds waiting for me to indulge. Match Victorian is an excellent all day VaPer. At about $31 a pound it is an excellent buy.

Yup. It was fun to discover that not all perique is the same. Excited to see how this one turns out in 5+ years.

I have a half pound that's been jarred for a year, yesterday I opened the first one... tremendously more enjoyable to me than when it was fresh, more dark fruity taste and less edginess to the spice for me. For me it went from just ok, to really good, it's time to order more and get the cellar rotation going on this one.
