    Hello from Bethlehem PA

Welcome.... I recall that there are a few pipe clubs that operate and meet in and around the Lehigh Valley area. I think Wooden Matches is a pipe-club that meets in Bethlehem. A quick search should get you in touch with a few clubs in your area. Also, "Pipes and Cigars" a major supplier of...

    Aromatic for the non-aromatic guy

Do try Lane Ltd "HGL" which is described as a mild, English-aromatic. It's really Lane's "RPL-6" = "Captain Black"-original..... with a small amount of Latakia added for some smokey flavor. Too mild?....add a little blending Latakia for more of a hit. Better yet: Try Wilke's "High Hat" for a...

What Music Are You Listening To ~April 2019

@ Cortez: Scott Joplin's classic masterpiece, "Solace" is one of my all time favs when I'm in a contemplative mood and especially when I'm at war with this world that's beyond my understanding..... The plaintive, and poignant harmonies that flow effortlessly together connecting the four...

New guy looking for the right smoke... please help!

Buy sample packets of various tobaccos from major shops and sellers. Many advertise on this forum. Trade tobacco samples with other pipe smokers or forum members. Zero in on what you prefer, and you'll quickly learn what you dislike and what disappoints..... We all go through this trial...

I Hate to Post This..Briar Patch Closing

Sad to read... More infuriating politics that prevent and destroy the ability of man to earn a living. Censorship and forum politics.....prevents me from making any other comments lest I offend the sensibilities of some readers.

    Trying new blends

Ditto: Lane Ltd. "HGL" aromatic-English with just enough Latakia to keep "Captain Black"-original, interesting. "HGL" is Captain Black with a slight amount of Latakia for some added flavor interest, and to prevent the smoker from going into a coma. Nice fragrance to keep the skirts happy.

Perfecting My Second Home Blend... Need Advice!

Hello diamondback..... Interesting reading thru your blending experiments. Good luck with your endeavors. I tried making some customized blends but I started with a commercially available mixture, that I liked, as my "base"and then tweaked it by adding other blends/tobaccos until I found...

    Nonsmokers' Descriptions of Tobacco Aroma

I always wondered what my smoldering tobacco mixtures smelled like to others, to all the "sniffers". Being the "smoker" cuts us out from the fun end. Burning pipe tobacco, to us, never smells like burning pipe tobacco does to all the sniffers and smellers. I wish it did. Thirty years ago, I...

I Want a Churchwarden and Need Your Wisdom

Convert one of your favorite pipes into a churchwarden by having and extra stem made. Done...and you're out only the price of the new stem. Churchwardens are just pipes with longer stems. The pipe has no idea where its stem finally ends...... Of course if you must buy one of the pipe brands...

My First Mr. Brog Pipe. Let's See Yours. (pics)

Bought a blonde, Pear-wood "horn" last year. It smokes great, and use it, often. Nice little pipe for a very reasonable price...very comfortable in hand and clenched....which I rarely do. No regrets, no buyer's remorse.....

NYC - Chelsea District - Pipe Shop Recommendations

Whatever you do....take a cab ride to Katz's Deli on Grand Street..... Treat yourself to a Pastrami and Brisket on Rye, with a schmear of mustard, potato pancakes, and green tomato pickles. You'll plotz!...and forget about pipes. Frank NYC

    Jim's Latest Wilke Reviews.

Just because I enjoy reading through all these reviews, because Wilke's blends are top-quality tobaccos, because Wilke's historical mixtures were some of the originals that I smoked, and for the sake of auld lang syne, I will revisit "High Hat" and "Gotham Court"....two blends that are great...

    Cigar Leaf Blends

John Patton's: 'Storm Front'....mild, sweet, easy to smoke....really nice aroma and flavor. 'Dark and Stormy'....sam as above but with the addition of a small amount of Latakia leaf. i found it slightly harsh. 4 Noggins sells mixtures that contain cigar-leaf. Try buying a few ounces of mild...

    "THE TINGLER" - HORROR MOVIE

@ Dino..... I laughed when I read your comments. I remember going to see this movie back in 1959. In retrospect, the movie was ridiculous, but who cared. My theater (Bronx, NYC) rigged some fake "tinglers" to some fishing line and pulled these monsters through the aisles. Of course the...

Did Anyone Have a Good First Smoke?

1st time....was horrible. "Mixture No. 79" provided the smoke and a disgusting, full-bent Peterson knock-off was the pipe. Packed that "briar saxophone" tight, and lit matches until the tobacco reeked from sulfur. Then smoked away. Smoked until I turned green, and stuck my head in the toilet...

    Pipe Carving Questions

Carolina..... If I were you, the first thing I would do is contact some briar suppliers and ask them to send you a box of briar scraps, cut-off, and rejects. I'd use this junk briar for experiments with staining, finishing, waxing, Dremel carving, and rustication techniques. At least you'll...
