    A Tasty New Blend

@ blendtobac: Thanks for this information. Sounds pretty serious, these tyrannical deeming rules. So.... will this type of DIY "hybridizing" of older, existing blends be the future for us pipe smokers if we want to try some new mixtures? In other words, WE, not the professional tobacco...

    Alienist Anyone?

Now, I must read these books, too. BTW, also enjoyed "Shutter Island"... both movie and book. Movie almost exactly follows the book. Frank NYC

    A Tasty New Blend

More intrigued when reading about these "hybrid" blends, than those mixtures that are "made from scratch". Wish those members that post the recipes of their hybrid blending experiments would describe the results of their mixtures. I see that many start off with codger blends like Carter...

    Alienist Anyone?

Fantastic period piece and story. Love seeing all the old style buildings, clothing, and all the various cigar and pipe smokers. Can't wait for the story to unfold. Well acted, and artistically photographed. Actually, worth watching. Frank NYC

Questions About Driftwood or Suede Finishes

Loved reading all the speculative comments regarding this blasted "suede" finish. georged... suggested that I was an uncouth slob for having less than fastidious smoking habits. I laughed. Georged is right. A pipe to me is an object of utility, a hunk of wood that has two intersecting...

We Used To Sniff Glue And Drink Cough Syrup

Some even suck the smoldering end of a rolled paper tube, inhale burning plant leaves, and other volatilized toxic chemicals, to the point of inducing deadly cancer to corrupt their lungs..... Go figure. Frank NYC

Questions About Driftwood or Suede Finishes

As a surface treatment, I wonder how durable that blasted "suede" finish would be if the pipe is knocked around or worse, dropped onto a hard surface? Bet those delicate, blasted interstices will crush and chip out if the pipe is roughly treated. An unwanted chip in that finish will stick out...

What You Do When You Decide You No Longer Want Your Churchwarden

Orley.....I thought so. When I first peep the pic, I said:..."WTF!".... You're right. That pipe reminds me of a Baroque trumpet..... Thanks for the laugh. Frank NYC

    Lane Limited HGL

Yep....Smoke it straight, and mixed with some cigar leaf. Straight "HGL" is good stuff. "Captain Black" with a little hit of Latakia, for a more interesting smoke... Frank NYC

    Pipe Cleaners & "Quality"....Who Cares?

Well.....I glad that I asked. You guys took me to school. Thanks for getting my head straight when it comes to pipe cleaners. Much obliged. Frank NYC

What You Do When You Decide You No Longer Want Your Churchwarden

Just a suggestion: If this is not a joke question.....have a traditional, new stem made for it, to convert the pipe into something more "conventional", and less circuitous. Frank NYC

    Pipe Cleaners & "Quality"....Who Cares?

When a pipe needs a good swabbing out to reduce gurgles, or to be cleaned, I reach for the packet of pipe-cleaners. Never ever gave a thought about brands, quality, etc. In fact I go to the crafts stores, like Hobby Lobby, Michael's, and buy my pipe cleaners there....the extra long...

Distinguished Penguin + Captain Morgan = Drunken Penguin

Question: Do you actually taste the booze, or, does the booze just help marry the tobacco flavors....or, both? I was thinking of lightly spritzing some Rum on a few different blends and pressing the Rum moistened mixtures into a crumble-cake and aging them for a few months for mellowing. Thanks...

    Lane Limited - "Crown Achievement"

@oldgeezersmoker: Thanks for the background info. Very interesting. From another old geezer.... Frank NYC

    Lane Limited - "Crown Achievement"

Just asking..... When "Crown Achievement" was originally conceived by the "master blender" and a batch was mixed together....did Lane Ltd send out trial samples to some experienced, "pipe tobacco reviewers" for critiques, suggestions, etc. before the blend went on the market for sale to the...

    Blending with Cigar Leaf

I came up with my own personal cigar-leaf mixture, and used some cigar "trimmings" that I bought from at a local cigar shop. The gentleman/owner, who rolls hand-made cigars, was thrilled to sell me some mild leaf after I told him what I was going to do with his tobacco trimmings. He loaded up...

P&C Pairing Guide by Russ Ouellette

DO NOT suck on Cepacol extra strength cough drops and then smoke your favorite blend. It just doesn't work out too well.

    Cellaring

This thread caught my eye. I had many, many, concerns about properly storing...you well-seasoned guys call it "cellaring" ....a batch of freshly mixed, personally-exclusive, cigar-leaf aromatic-English. I imported (don't ask) some special, Cuban leaf and mixed this into my secret tobacco...

"Balanced" Blends....Which Is... and Which Isn't...and Why?

After joining this forum back in July, I've been doing a lot of reading of past threads. Partly out of curiosity, but mostly to become better informed. I've been away from pipe-smoking for years, and I now need to catch up on what's hot, and what's not. I've come across the term...."balanced...

    Blending with Cigar Leaf

Joined this forum a few months ago. I'm still trying to read through some of the older threads. I've posted this recipe on some other thread, but I'll re-post it here, where it belongs. Cigar-Leaf blend(S): "PLEASANT MOMENTS" 1 0z. mild cigar leaf (Maduro) or, chop up a mild cigar 1 oz...
