***What Are You Smoking, February 2023?***

Earlier, Mac Baren Navy Flake (2020) in this newer Roadtown pipe ...not gonna lie, folks - for just about $20 shipped to my front door, this 'beater pipe' smoked great outta the box and has been seeing a lot of use. Now smoking Rattray's Marlin Flake in a large Kaywoodie Sabbiata Gold series -...

***What Are You Smoking, February 2023?***

A busy Sunday, but full of pipes nonetheless - since returning home from the family symphony trip: Mac Baren Plumcake (pictured), C&D Yorktown, and now GLP Cairo ...must be the perfect humidity today, weather-wise -- everything is smoking down to nothing! ...a good night to all! puffy

Smoking Drexel VIII in the Rattray's White Goddess before going with the whole fam to see the Pittsburgh Symphony play Holst's "The Planets" - have a nice Sunday folks! puffy

    Commuter/Outside Smoking

I second the pre-load approach - also, I have been taking more time to stop at the end of the driveway and light my pipe before getting a move on. Even if I let it out for a few minutes during the ride, it's a lot easier to light back up after the first few minutes - especially with flakes, imo...

    Are You Over-Drying Your Tobacco?

I mostly smoke Va/VaPer/VaOr, etc. blends - for these, dryer is almost always better. I am even more of a believer in this after discovering Drexel VIII - drier than the desert, burns perfectly and has tons of great flavor. But, of course, and especially in regards to pipe smoking: to each their...

    Speaking of Scott Thile...

Very cool - I have been a fan of Chris Thile's playing for quite a while ...his stage presence make me cringe pretty hard, but people love cheesy shit. That said, he is a devastatingly impressive player on a technical level - he absolutely transcends the Mandolin with his musicality, he just...

    The Virtues of Black Coffee

Black coffee is the way. I will drink it hot, room temperature, iced...just about any way I can get it - espresso, too. My day usually starts with an iced glass of yesterday evening's leftover drip. :) Then again, I worked in coffeeshops for years ...the horrors I have seen committed against...

    I'm a Fanatic

If I could get a pound of Mac Baren HH Pure Virginia for the same price as a pound of Gambler, I'd be a happy guy lol

    Presbyterian Ordained vs 507-C

I wondered about this blend... I like 507-C, but I am trying to love it. I have had over a pound aging for about three years - gone through about 8oz in that time. I am going to smoke a bowl of it now - the stuff smells so good in the jar, reminds me of Orlik Golden Sliced. That said, I'd pick...

    Tell Me About Electric Guitars

The most important thing is getting any guitar set up properly by a good luthier, imo - I have guitars that cost thousands, some that cost just barely $200 - the ones that get played most are the ones that currently have the best setup and fresh strings :) -- if you ever need/want help with the...

    Why Peterson?

I bought my first Peterson a couple years ago...and another the next year...I have seen negative murmurings about them, but mine are absolutely fantastic smokers. ...I think my next pipe may end up being a Peterson, too.

***What Are You Smoking, January 2023?***

Just opened a tin of 2018 Orlik Golden Sliced, about to smoke some in a Peterson Rosslare - photo from the moment I opened the tin: Cheers folks!! puffy

Anniversaries Approaching: Mac Baren & Savinelli

@Servant King - I like the way you think ...I am always a sucker for playing the long game. I admire Sav's, but I am much more of a Mac Baren fanatic - I am interested to see what they come up with!

    Creme Brulee by Sutliff

Every time I load up a bowl of this stuff I think "there's no way this is going to burn" ...and, every time, I am wrong haha - so well behaved for such a goopy blend. Come to think of it, it's been a while - might be time for a bowl of the ole Creme Brulee...cheers!

Filling popped out - is this a problem?

It's cool to know this option exists - thanks for the heads up!

***What Are You Smoking, December 2022?***

Finishing a bowl of 707 Sutliff Sweet Virginia in a no-name Italian basket pipe - earlier, Plumcake in the same pipe. I plan on finishing the year smoking my pipe and rolling in '23 doing the same - 2020 Mac Baren Navy Flake up next, I believe. Enjoyed bowling with the family earlier, a NYE...

    Recent TAD Pick-Ups

I am very new to the blend as well, so I am not sure on aging - that said, the tin I am currently on is a couple years old and tastes great. If you are looking for a naturally 'fruity' blend with the tiniest bit of Latakia, pop that sucker open asap haha :) Cheers!

Is it acceptable to throw bagged tobaccos into a Tupperdor?

I have been keeping baggies and open tins in my spare tupperdore for quite a while, no problems whatsoever - jars are great, too, of course.

    Drexel Pipe Tobacco

This has become a go-to commuter smoke...I got a pouch of this on a whim last month and have gotten several more as it's super cheap. ...I fortunately have consistently gotten a solid VaPer flavor out of it - I definitely see the comparison to PS LNF. I have all the pouches in a tupperware...
