    May The Fourth…

    Happy Birthday!

    Walt Cannoy Suedeblast

I seem to recall reading if briar is treated with oxalic acid, then sandblasted, something very close to the “suedeblast” can be achieved.

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

@PipeIT Why are those horses so small?

    Your Morning Routine

It isn’t necessarily my morning routine, but what I’ve done after I get up for the last forty-four years: I floss and brush my teeth, do fifty half-assed pushups to get the blood going, fifty crunches, then make tea or coffee.

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

May the 4th be with you! Going to have @Humblepipe ’s Darth Vaper (Virginia-Perique with about 10% Turkish-Oriental, topped with Jack Daniels and cellared for one year) in an Oguz Simsek Darth Vader Figural. I also thought I’d share a fun gift my friend John gave me last month when he...

    Happy Dave Brubeck Day!

In the early ’90s, I heard ”Take Five” in a dream—a guy was playing the Paul Desmond part on a trumpet at the wedding of a friend of mine in this dream—though, I didn’t know the name of the tune yet—but it’s what got me into jazz. I told the art director at Cracked Magazine about the tune in...

    Coatings on Chinese Pipes

I understand the concerns about Chinese products, especially after seeing news reports of Pixar Cars toys having lead in their paints. I believe I only have one Chinese pipe (a Roadtown) and it seems like any other pipe. As long as the coating on yours isn’t inside the bowl, you’re probably...

    Late Bloomer from Norway

Welcome from Pennsylvania and New York. I suspect the three step method has gotten more new pipe smokers off to a bad start than just about any loading technique. @AJL67 and @Sigmund ’s suggestions are probably better starting points. Good luck! I look forward to seeing your pipe journey...

Show us your Michael Parks Pipes

Well, I bid several times that, but wasn’t willing to go to four figures.

Show us your Michael Parks Pipes

I bid on a Michael Parks pipe last month, but was the under bidder (half knowing I would lose, given what his pipes are selling for these days).

What Cigar are You Smoking? 2024

It’s 8:42 pm, and dark out. 72⁰ and a bit breezy. Still smoking the same cigar, but wanted to share an interesting pic of Wasabi lit by a car passing by.

What Cigar are You Smoking? 2024

Taking a break from working on Weird Tales. Having a Famous Smoke Shop Nicaraguan Factory Selects, 5 5/8" x 60 on the porch. It’s about 7:30 pm and a comfortable 78⁰ outside. Wasabi couldn’t wait to go outside after being cooped up all day.

    Captain Black Grape 🍇

I ordered two tubs on April 19th when the site listed 12 available. On the 29th, I got an e-mail that I got a refund, after the second batch sold out. I e-mailed to ask why my order didn’t get processed and never heard back.

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

Having Newminster 400 in another of my very early Eugène-Léon Ropp pipes, a Cherrywood with a Natural Horn Stem. It’s stamped “Bussang,” so, it’s very likely it was made at Ropp’s original workshop there between 1870–1893. This one will be dedicated to Virginia blends. This pipe has a...

What Cigar are You Smoking? 2024

    @jbfrady Happy Birthday!

    Anyone have Dunhill innertubes?

A couple of my early Savinelli Punto Oro pipes are missing their inner tubes (or only have a partial remnant). I thought about ordering the Dunhill tubes for them, but ended up ordering aluminum and brass tubing from Amazon; hopefully the two different diameters will fit. I measured with a...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

Thanks, I dig it—but, it’s a far cry from an “H” grade pipe.

What Cigar are You Smoking? 2024

Having an Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur No. III Toro, 6.1" x 50 on the porch.

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

I’m sticking with the Irish theme since I’m still working on the Bram Stoker® Awards issue of Weird Tales Magazine. Having Peterson University Flake in a Briar Pipes Limited. (B.P.L.) Shamrock and Harp Carved Bent Billiard with a B.P.L. stamped vulcanite stem, from Dublin, Ireland—this pipe...
