Jim's Sutliff Pipe Force Episode V Review.

These pipe force blends have not tasted good to me. It's like they used up all the good tobacco in the Birds of a Feather series and these are the leftovers. Episode IV made me gag and this one sounds about as bad. Gonna pass on this one, and most likely the rest of the series.

    Recent TAD Pick-Ups

    Predictably.

    Recent TAD Pick-Ups

Surprised there isn't more Esoterica posts here as there was a big Germain/Esoterica/Butera drop this week. Or is everyone trying to keep it "secret?" Most of the usual online retailers have already sold their allotment, but B&M's still have quite a lot out there. At this point I just leave...

    Favorite Dan Tobacco blends

Veermaster, Salty Dogs, and Old Ironsides are my favorites by them. Salty being the toughest to get regularly.

Old Toby from The Country Squire

I'm not much of an aro guy, but I get along with their Hunting Creek blend. Sometimes Shepherd's Pie.

    Favorite Wing Sauce and Preferences

Okay, I am kind of a weird wing guy in that I try to keep them as healthy as possible, while not having to go through too much trouble to make wings. I roast whole wings in my oven at 425 degrees until they are basically as crisp as if fried (maybe forty minutes), remove them and turn off the...

    Show Off Your Petersons Here!

I have lots of Peterson's (most are Deerstalkers), but this is my first system. Nice, chonky B42 with some excellent sandblast.

    Lakeland aromatic

Lakelands are similar to aromatics in that they have heavy flavoring at times--but unlike aromatics in that they actually have strength to them as they are mostly comprised of flue cured tobaccos. The flavorings can range from floral to incense to honey to fruit/rum to vanilla, etc. Like...

What Cigar are You Smoking? 2023

No photo, but I've gotten a lot less adventurous with my cigars and gone back to some of my favorites: H. Upmann Bankers and Romeo 1875 Nicaragua Connecticut. I've never had a bad smoke with either of them.

    Rusticated,Blasted,Smooth Peterson

I actually love ALL of Peterson's finishes. I collect the XL14 shape (Sherlock Holmes Deerstalker) and they are all appealing to me. The original release of this pipe had a neat red-ish sandblasted finish and I smoke that one a lot. The Heritage finish, as well as the Ebony, are also quite...

    Pre-School Withdraws Book Showing ...

History is never kind to those who burn/ban books. I'd rather tell my kid to not get a certain book because I find it personally offensive than to have a library ban it. But some want to push their religion, politics, and everything else on the rest of us. No thanks.

    New C&D Small Batch? Steamworks?

They still have it available online at L.J. Peretti's.

Savinelli Saint Nicholas 2023 Pipes are Up

I think I would've actually preferred a black sandblast instead of brown on these. As is, it looks a little too like my Sav Oceano. Of course, that isn't stopping me from staring at the Canadian...

    Dan Tobacco, Midnight Ride

I think it's a great summer English blend for me. During the hot months, I like an English at night and it's usually either Midnight Ride, Fusilier's Ration, or Davidoff Royalty. I go a bit stronger as the months get colder and steer towards Quiet Nights, Gaslight, and H&H Ten to Midnight.

Jim's Sutliff Pipe Force Episode IV Review.

I did not get along with this one. Tasted VERY bitter to me and left a horrible taste in my mouth. Donated my open tin to my pipe club buddies. I'm not even sure what it was in there that made such a horrible impression on me.

    Dishonorable Mentions

Some interesting selections here. I don't know that there's any tobacco I just flat out hate, but I tend to avoid burley or rustica blends. But strangely enough I don't mind the fire cured Virginia/burley blends from Gawith or Velvet (which seems to be a burley that others dislike). I suppose...

Peterson Pipe of the Year 2023

I was bewildered by my first plip Peterson, but then one morning I just "got it" while smoking and have loved it since. I'm not a clencher and it took me a minute to figure out to rest my lips on the ledge behind the opening. Now I love them. Especially on the Deerstalkers, which are my...

***What Are You Smoking, July 2023?***

Revisiting a jar of GLP Stonehenge the past week and it has aged beautifully. Much like the other Gawith stuff, letting it relax in a jar for a year or two does incredible things. Still getting that Lakeland style topping, but the tobacco's flavor is just super smooth and easy smoking. I'm...

A Great Straight Virginia Recommended for a Morning-Time Smoke

Capstan, every time. If you don't mind the slightest amount of perique possible, Orlik Golden Sliced is also fantastic.

What, Currently, is Similar to Penzance?

I've been working my way through a jarred up 8 oz bag of Penzance and the only tobacco that seems close to me is this one. I can taste why people say Quiet Nights and Star of the East Flake are in the same ballpark, and maybe even preferable to some people, but 10 to Midnight is actually quite...
