    Bulk English

The only bulk English blends I regularly return to are my two favorites from Kramer--Father Dempsey and English--and some of the offerings by L.J. Peretti (British is my current favorite, though Royal and Century are damn good, too). I would've loved to hang at Kramer's back in the day.

    Why are French Pipes Cheap?

Definitely underrated pipes. Ropp's pipes are made from decades old briar stummels, with many of them featuring turn of the century horn stems, and they sell regularly in the $50-80 brand new. I have a cutty by them that's just fantastic. There are some beautiful Chacom estates out there, too.

Is Bothy Flake Still Available in the US?

Now I know who to blame...;)

Is Bothy Flake Still Available in the US?

I'm working on the last of a jar of some Bothy that I cellared about ten years ago and just realized that it's been a minute since I've seen tins of this for sale anywhere. Is it seasonal? Or did they just stop exporting this particular blend?

    What Constitutes Being "Well Traveled"?

I've been all over the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Most of my traveling abroad was courtesy of Uncle Sam--four years stationed in Germany meant that I had a lot of time to explore pretty much every country in Europe at some point, and then of course, were the deployments to Bosnia, Kosovo, and...

    Your "No Fuss/Go To" Tobacco?

Kramer's Father Dempsey or Balkan Sasieni. I've never had a problem with either in any pipe and they always hit the spot.

    Light Latakia Blends?

A good friend of mine smokes Sutliff's Aromatic English #504 as his main tobacco and it's exactly what you're looking for. Virginia, Cavendish, with a splash of Lat and Vanilla. Cool smoking, good aroma, and just a bit of campfire smokiness from the Lat.

***What Are You Smoking, November 2022?***

I'm slowly working my way through a batch of assorted tobaccos I got from L.J. Peretti's. Already found a few that I'm going to be stocking up on--the 150th Anniversary flake, No Name (a Lakeland style they do), and Ampersand flake. Just fantastic. It'll take me all of November to get through...

    Hello From Memphis, Tennessee

In a former life I was a "guerilla" style filmmaker (low budget, shooting with little to no gear/props, etc), so I've used the handle "filmguerilla" on quite a few sites.

What Are You Smoking, October 2022?

I'm all over an L.J. Peretti English Sampler and 150th Anniversary flake. Never had their tobacco before and I'm really loving it.

    Hello From Memphis, Tennessee

My first book was about applying filmmaking techniques to video game production, but every book since then (six so far) has been for Llewellyn Publishing about urban legends, ghost stories, and haunted places. My books are available at most booksellers--Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc. My name...

    Hello From Memphis, Tennessee

Learned about you guys/gals on r/PipeTobacco and looking forward to getting to know you all. Just a bit about myself: I write non-fiction books for a living and have been smoking pipes since I was a teenager in the 90's. Was given a Dr. Grabow Sculptura poker and a tin of Velvet by my...
