Please Welcome Mkelaw-Pipes.com as a (Old) New Sponsor

It's nice to be back. Thanks, guys, for all the very kind comments. For those of you who've checked out the website in the last two weeks, I'm back from vacation and will be able to fill orders again. Stay tuned for the posting of a large group of pipes from a very nice collection. Dave...

    1950 Stanwell Colonial Pipe Nightmare

Look on the bright side. She didn't put it in the dishwasher.

    Cavicchi Pipes

I have a customer who is looking for unsmoked, smooth Cavicchis 1C, 2C and 5C. Smokingpipes.com is showing nothing but 3C and 4C's with lesser priced pipes unmarked with any C's. Anyone know if they stopped marking 1 or 2C's. Also, if anyone has any that I'm looking for, please let me know.

    For Long Time Pipe Smokers

I've never had a problem either. I use butane but certainly not in a torch lighter. I think the key is to make your initial puffs in a way that no flame is created and to take the flame away from the pipe between initial puffs.

    Sandblasting Medium

I'm partial to deep blasts in the style of Lee Erck and Jim Cooke. I use aluminum oxide medium in a 320 grit with a small pencil rather than gun style blaster. It allows me to direct the medium with great precision. Glass beads with a gun is much, much faster and results in a different style...

Stop by and check them out. www.mkelaw-pipes.com Lots of new Five Starred sales pipes on the English page (15% off) Finally, first notice of newly posted pipes goes to those on my mailing list. There's...

Lots of Fresh Pipes at Mkelaw-Pipes.Com

Hi Everyone: Between making pipes, the Chicago Show and all the duties and obligations of real life, I've been behind the 8 Ball as far as getting new estates up on the site. But there are now about 35 fresh estates up on the website for your consideration. Estate Meers are 30% off and there...

Plateau or Heart Wood -- Which Smokes Better?

IMHO the one that will smoke better is the one that is properly made in terms of draw, continuity of draw, chamber shape, wall thickness, drilling accuracy. Also, balance, overall weight and bit thickness will affect overall enjoyment of a certain pipe. Straight grain or cross grain preference...

BJ Long Company Has Robbed Us

It's not just the fat, fluffy ones! Because of the restoration work I do, I use gazillions of pipe cleaner and have always used the BJ Long bristled cleaners which I buy by the case. I bought what will likely be my last case of them about a month ago. Skinny and when doubled over, they don't...

    Unsmoked Cavicchi 1 C wanted

Thanks! Cavicchi grading on smooths is one through four C's - C to CCCC. Not sure but I don't think blasts or rusticated Cavicchis are graded in the same way.

    Another Great Seller!

There's another current thread about good service from pipe sellers. What you got is good service. It's an old saw but should be the mantra of everyone who sells anything to the public: "The customer is always right." Good will in the age of the internet and boards like this one is...

    Confessions of a Germaphobe

Alcohol after each use is, in my opinion, not only unnecessary but also potentially harmful. Alcohol will dry out the briar and it may affect the fit of the tenon in the mortise. I'm not just speculating on this. I've alcohol-cleaned hundreds and hundreds of estates for re-sale and about one...

    White Sale at Mkelaw-pipes.com

No, I haven't begun selling sheets and pillow cases. I've marked down all pre-smoked meerschaums 30% and listed several unsmoked meers at VERY reasonable prices. I sent this out to my mailing list yesterday and four have been sold already. Please consider signing up for my mailing list if you...

    Pipe Stem Discoloration??

Sounds like what happened is that it oxidized in the shop and then was buffed out there to make it presentable for sale. Problem is that the buffing just removes the surface oxidation. As soon as the stem comes in contact with saliva (or often plain old water) it will bring out the underlying...
