    Which One to Celebrate Dad?

Those are all nice looking pipes that look well-smoked and cared for. Great way to honor your father. Any would be a fine choice. Tell us what tobacco you used. Great post!

    Show Off Your Kaywoodie Pipes

It’s interesting that you say Kaywoodies were not available in drugstores like the other brands; I wasn’t aware of that. I do remember dad considered his Kaywoodie pipes a step above the others. I always wrote it off as personal preference. I don’t know where dad purchased the pipes in my...

    A New Smoker from China

Welcome from the frozen snow fields of Alaska! Is pipe tobacco easily obtained where you are?

    Show Off Your Kaywoodie Pipes

Thanks, I do love the process of trying to figure out how some antique item got to where it is in current times. Probably a lot of stuff just sits around until a relative puts it on Ebay. Some items might have great stories if only the owners would have thought anyone down the line would care...

    Show Off Your Kaywoodie Pipes

Of my 10 pipes in regular rotation, four are Kaywoodies. The top three came from my dad and I believe he purchased them in the late 1950s. The bottom one I purchased from the Greywoodie on-line store in 2019. My dad probably liked Kaywoodies more than any other brand of drugstore pipe, which was...

Dr. Grabow in my Collection, At Last

How cool to have led annual Dr. Grabow factory tours! I’m envious but always impressed with the depth of knowledge and experience on this web site. I completely agree about having a connection to the pipes one smokes. I had a really good relationship with my parents, but being a boy growing up...

    Anyone recognize this stamp?

I did a quick Google search and found this a Westminster London made pipe stamped as yours. Above the logo is the word “Special” stamped as well. Not much else on-line that I could see.

    A Peter Hedegaard Straight Apple

That is a great looking pipe, congrats! How on earth did someone not smoke that thing since 2006?!?

Dr. Grabow in my Collection, At Last

Thank you, OverMountain. The collection has a little bit of this and that thanks to my dad. It’s hard to imagine I’ve been smoking some around 30 years. I’ve only got three bowls of my mish-mosh cherry aromatic blend into the Dr. Grabow, but it’s already getting a nice toasted cherry pie smell...

    Hi from Thailand

At least the mail-order cost of tobacco is still pretty low in the states. I've had a couple of work trips to Thailand and it was an amazing place. Maybe a bit hot from a guy used to colder climates. Welcome to this cool on-line community from Alaska!

    PipesandCigars.com issues?

Not sure if this input will add much to the ongoing discussion, but I made two orders on the 30th of May for a bunch of 1 ounce samples of mostly codger blend matches. One order was from Smoking Pipes and the other from Pipes and Cigars. These were not huge orders – combined they totaled a...

Dr. Grabow in my Collection, At Last

Thank you for the comments, I’m glad to have a Dr. Grabow now in my rotation. Kaywoodies were my dad’s favorite and I’m glad to have some of his as well. I’ll have to post pictures of them one of these days. Today I finished the Grabow’s stummel in the Savoy maroon color I remember from dad’s...

Dr. Grabow in my Collection, At Last

Thanks for all the comments, insight and encouragement! Yes, the tree house is pretty nice - it's wired for electricity and has a heater and lights. The house wifi reaches it as well. Even in the Alaskan winters I've spent overnighters with the kids when they were younger. Now it's a great...

Dr. Grabow in my Collection, At Last

The pipe arrived yesterday and sure enough, it’s an unused, many decades old Riviera #65. My first impression was that it’s very light in the hand, possibly my lightest pipe. The next impression was that it’s no beauty queen. I wiped down the exterior and a single pipe cleaner was enough to...

Dr. Grabow in my Collection, At Last

I recently saw a very similar pipe on Ebay. It appeared to be a Dr. Grabow Riviera shape #65 from about the same time frame as my dad’s old pipe. The Riviera was the next step down in quality from the already humble Savoy models in the Grabow line-up back in the day. The thing that piqued my...

Dr. Grabow in my Collection, At Last

This thread is intended to be part nostalgic ramble, part pipe-review and partly a bunch of pipe pictures because, who doesn’t like looking at pipe pictures? I’ve posted previously that most of my small pipe collection came from my dad. He was a typical blue-collar pipe man of his day...

Show Me Pipe Rack / Storage Options

Douglas: The peg board hooks are the model of efficiency! The old red one looks like a boot dryer - if you rigged up a fan and managed to direct the air up through the tubes it would be a quick pipe dryer. Choatecav: You may be right. Forums like this do provoke a lot of reflection on the...

Seeking Info on a 1950s or 1960s Red Root

Thank you for the suggestions. I’ll look at the vintage offerings of LHS and Comoy models and post if I see anything that looks like it might match.

Show Me Pipe Rack / Storage Options

This has been a fun thread to follow, with many great pictures of pipe storage options. The original poster had space limitations and so do I, so I thought I’d post my “solutions” to storage issues that are of my own making (I have a self-imposed 10 pipe limit and restrict my pipe hobby space to...

    Howdy From Far West Texas

Howdy back at you from the frozen North of Alaska where our smoke rings freeze solid and we can toss them around to kill time. Not really, but welcome all the same!
