Tobacco Drying Mistake Gave Me The Best Smoke In Ages.

As soon as I open a tin I dump the tobacco into a bail-top glass jar w/silicone seal. Maintains the tin moisture till it's gone, even if it takes me a month or more.

Book: "How to Scratch A Match and Other Secrets of Successful Pipesmoking"

Keeping 3 fingers on it helps (but you have to be quick getting the ring finger out of harm's way when it fires up ;) ). I think though that like a lot of things, the quality of matches has gone downhill. They rarely fire on the first strike, and the sticks seem a lot flimsier than I remember...

    The Wrist Watch

That's a beauty! I love watches, had a bunch of them at one time but sold most when Swiss watch prices shot up a few years ago. The cost of servicing them was becoming an unsustainable expense, unfortunately. The two I most regretted selling were a Breitling Navitimer (the only chronograph I...

    The Wrist Watch

Miyota movements gained panache after SWATCH group decided to limit ETA movements to their own brands. Kind of like codger blends gained panache when pipe "hobbyists" discovered them. Similar situations in that neither Miyota movements nor codger blends have actually improved in quality...

Book: "How to Scratch A Match and Other Secrets of Successful Pipesmoking"

Bwahahaha so there's a rule about the "right" way to strike a match, eh? Funny thing is, every time I think about all the cultism over "codger" blends and corncobs, I think back to my childhood and recall that most of the pipe-smoking codgers I knew probably never read a book. And the ones...

Tobacco Drying Mistake Gave Me The Best Smoke In Ages.

See, folks get me wrong because they only want to hear what they want to hear. I never said anyone should smoke tobacco that's too wet to smoke. What I said was, blenders charging premium prices, really ought to seal the tins with the tobacco in the optimum range for best flavor and...

    Just For Laughs!

You could smoke a ham in that thing.

    Dunhill, Castello or Others

If what you really long for is a Dunhill you'll be dissatisfied with anything else. Nothing to do with the pipe, just human nature. Estate Dunhills come up all the time in good quantity. If you can control your impulse to spend your Christmas loot right away, one will come up soon.

    Pipes and Cigars low stock

They might be keeping their inventory low for tax purposes until the calendar or fiscal year turns over.

    Edgeworth Executive Mixture

A drugstore blend no discerning pipesmoker would touch when it was in production, now dried to a crisp...sounds like a double-win for today's pipe "hobbyists".

2004 Ashton Pebble Grain - Needs Re-Drilling - Pic Heavy

For some reason, Ashton has long had a reputation for poor drilling. Apparently the drilling procedure was passed down through apprenticeship so the current guy is as bad as the original. Too bad because otherwise they're halfway decent pipes.

    emery board a stem?

Is it another rule of the "hobby" that you mustn't have any chatter on your stems?

    Mixture 799

It took ten more tries before the blender found something that got the taste of 69 out of his mouth.

Chasing Smoke - Tongue Bite for Beginners

SG does seem to ship their wares pretty soggy. At least the two I smoke are (Kendall Chocolate and Firedance). Sadly, both seem to lose their top note (cocoa and blackberry, respectively) with drying. Perhaps because they come so wet it takes hours if not overnight to get them to where they'll...

    Oriental forward blends taste-wise

I've only smoked two oriental-forward blends in recent times, both Dunhills (MM965 and The Aperitif)and both have what I would call a sweet-and-sour or spicy-floral taste and room note. Those both contain some Latakia, MM965 more than The Aperitif, and both also contain unflavored brown...

Tips for Lighting and Smoking McClelland Blends

Samuel Gawith flakes are similar. I love Kendal Mayor's Chocolate Flake and Firedance, but the problem getting and keeping them lit relegates them to occasional smokes. I do as was suggested...light them, then let it sit for a half hour or so. Usually by then it lights and smokes fine. Why I...

    Marking Your Territory

If my wife ever loses her penchant for black coffee and tuna salad with raw onion, then she can complain about tobacco on my breath :D

Chasing Smoke - Tongue Bite for Beginners

Lol now there's even a rule for the "correct" way to light up.

    New use for empty tins

I always jar the tobacco and bin the tin. Honestly never thought of repurposing them but I think they'd be good for for storing nuts and bolts and washers and such. They don't break like babyfood jars.
