On Smoking Slowly and the Benefits...

This is one thing that I still can’t get onboard with. Maybe I see the wrong pipe smokers but I’ve never seen a pipe smoker that didn’t produce visual amounts of smoke and aroma. The fact that you are grocery shopping with a pipe in your mouth must be a regional thing, try doing that in Austin...

Info on Old Master Twin Bore

This is instead of the v slot. So whereas the v slot would remove the material from ‘a’ in Fig 3 in the above image. There is more material with a twin bore than a typical v slot.

    1792 Flake by Samuel Gawith

Great write up. I love the new packaging! This is an all time favorite of mine, perfect to start and end your day with. Pairs great with a hot cup of coffee and/or tea. These flakes age really well too, it’s not that it gets better with age but I’ve found that it doesn’t change much at all...

    not tasting!

Smoke two pipes at the same time, switch between the two and the flavors should pop. That was my aha moment. Try two very different styles, eg, an English and a VA (or anything really).

    Carolina Red Flake Is Yucky

I agree, I’m smoking some from a 7 year old tin that lost its seal recently so I was forced to smoke it and jar it up. Sublime indeed! It sure made me happy that I’ve cellared this one deep.

    Carolina Red Flake Is Yucky

I think that’s already happening. You hear more and more talk of Burley these days than I’ve ever heard, it will swing back around to another genre that “serious” pipe smokers enjoy. Smoke whatever fits your fancy, otherwise there is no point to it. Who are we trying to impress, other pipe...

War Horse Bar is a winner!

That is a great looking tin right there. If that was a proper plug, I would have been all over this release. Just turned out that this release didn’t tickle my fancy, I know I’ve given you all a hard time over it but I hope you know it was all in good fun. I always appreciated that you all...

    Age

Pretty much in the same boat, though I’m just doing it now because I’m very much addicted. I stuck with dipping when I quit smoking cigarettes, then, when I started pipe smoking, my goal was to give up the dip but now I just do both regularly with the intent to quit dipping someday so I can...

    Don’t Retrohale Dark Birds Eye!

Dark Birdseye was a love at first sip for me. I went back after that first bowl and placed a 500 gram order. Though it’s a strong tobacco, I find it very smooth and easy going. Definitely more for the nic hungry folks out there.

    The Beast

Ah, they got me with this one. Haven’t had it since it’s first release, I really liked it, why not? $17 isn’t bad at all, it will be the norm in a year or two. Of course, I had to throw in more tobacco to get that free shipping, so I bought some Kelly’s Coin among some other things, I’ve seen...

    Plastic in Capstan

We had a guy post pictures of a feather he found in his plug. That kind of gives the Birds of a Feather line a whole new appeal doesn’t it? 🤮

    Age

29 years old. Any younger and I wouldn’t have stuck with it.

    Aw, gee, George!

Carlin is a bit overrated in my opinion. Sure he had some decent stuff but he was really just a pissed off old man with a microphone, what’s so exciting about that? He definitely inspired some of my favorite comedians but I never got what was so great about him. I deal with those negative...

War Horse Bar is a winner!

Ah okay, that makes sense, I thought I saw someone say STG. I thought they made the Vertical Limit plugs too, that is Sutliff making those plugs then? I would have loved to see you all come out with a whole leaf plug.

    Song about a dog.

Man, what a touching song. My dog Lilah just passed last month, so it really hits home for me. Good writing there my friend. I wish all the best with your music as you’ve got some real talent there. I had dog named Ruby a long time ago. She was a crazy, and I mean crazy, Blue Heeler, I really...

War Horse Bar is a winner!

So who is putting it out now? Those Scandinavians?

War Horse Bar is a winner!

You guys were drunk when you made that stuff, right? I kid, I kid.

    Plastic in Capstan

But is it AGED plastic or just some shitty young plastic? Plastic gets soooo much better with age on it.

    Hello from West TX!

Welcome from Austin. I lived in El Paso for a few years. Any good tobacconists left there? I moved to Austin from El Paso in ‘96. I would highly recommend GH&Co Dark Flake Unscented and their brown ropes to start with. I personally love both the scented and unscented version of DF but I get...

    Restoration Fail

That’s excellent work. I got hooked watching the whole set of videos. How long have you been in the business of restoring pipes?
