This is my latest harvest, it hasn't arrived yet, I didn't find anything about it on PIPEDIA, does anyone know what factory it came from? Thanks.

A check of my City de Luxe pipe with this type bit revealed a Patent Number (414197) stamped in the Vulcanite on the underside. It is also stamped "Tuscan Lip."

A search of the patent shows that it was awarded to Oppenheimer Pipes, LTD on May 2, 1933. Here is a drawing, included with their submission, which shows the inner workings of the bit:

How so? It would seem to me that having two holes weakens the stem more than one.

Not being fastidious: It's just that I've my eyes on a pipe which uses this system.
You know how the tooth marks are fairly central on a bit? (at least for my bite) So that would be happening where it is solid.

This is instead of the v slot. So whereas the v slot would remove the material from ‘a’ in Fig 3 in the above image. There is more material with a twin bore than a typical v slot.

OK, I think it starts to make sense now.

I don't clench, so I wouldn't really know this.

The center of the stem being solid, top to bottom, and the two divergent airways being of lesser diameter, there's more vulcanite thickness everywhere in the bite zone. Doesn't mean that a determined beaver can't chew through the stem, but he'll have to be much more determined.
