I also don't see the debate... (@hoosierpipeguy )
I find that cobs do imbibe a sweet taste at the start (I mean, it's made of corn...) but that goes away after a few smokes.
My reason for spending any quantity of money on briar is not because I think it'll taste better. I buy a nice briar...
If you have a yard, I'd think about building a little windproof gazebo or a shed to go smoke in (with decent ventilation but that will block the wind).
We get high winds frequently where I am too, and I often go out walking with a pipe. But, I detest smoking in the wind. There are several...
One is carved out by hand (rusticated, so there are many styles of it). The other is literally blasted with sand and pulpier wood is removed at a higher rate than harder material, so you sort of see the structural parts of the root form.
Had to wait for the rainstorm to subside... but out smoking some ancient (well, 2003) Bob's Chocolate flake in a blasted Savinelli 315 KS before bed. The older this gets the more perfumed it seems.
I don't own any, but they have a solid reputation.
By defects, he just means the normal stuff (like a few filled pits). You get what seems to be a factory 2nd pipe with a nice natural/blast finish. For the price, it's not a bad deal.
Exactly what I meant.
My personal preference for an oriental forward English in bulk is Rattray's Red Rapparee; which you can get in 17.5oz bags for just over $70, which's still double the price of Balkan Supreme... but I apparently hate money.
All good solid picks. The Arango Balkan Supreme is a nice evening smoke and for the price really is difficult to beat. Not as luxurious as some other options, but still a very solid smoke.
I recently made a big order for what would be a 'British' codger blend (as in nearly a shag cut...
I'm with @jpmcwjr -- I enjoy the swirl method, but I can't do it outside... it just makes such a mess and you end up blowing all over the place.
I like the finger method (just the tip mind), or the old fold and stuff.
It depends upon the cut for sure, this is why I like a nice shag. Quick and...
That's a thousand possible blends right there... if you like English and Latakia, A well-liked tobacco (I guess it's a Balkan) is Plum Pudding (I prefer the Special Reserve version).
3P's isn't my favourite plug, I prefer the stronger ones. But even so, that doesn't sound like any 3P that I've ever had.
If anything it sounds more like War Horse Green - which is more anise than menthol (wintergreen I can get from it), but that kind of ball-park anyhow. I'm pretty partial to...
Pipes and reading are a great combo. Lately, I enjoy sitting with a John Le Carré novel under a tree.
I've recently been revisiting some very old English Angling books (pure nostalgia for me).
If you fancy a trip back in time to the early 1900s in England, some examples by H.T.Sherringham can...
age: 39
height: 6'2
weight: 240lb
frequency: 3-4 bowls in the week, more on the weekends, but sometimes zero. More in the colder months. I've been smoking a pipe on and off since around 2004, but more so in the last five years. I used to be a cigarette smoker.
I don't inhale (pipes or cigars)...
I'll second this @Sgetz: GQ is really good for getting smaller quantities or breaking down packs - for example, not having to buy Solani Silver Flake in 100g if you don't know you like it... They'll happily sell you 50g.
