    I think that's it - if you look at the underside picture, I think I see that marking (rotated 90 degrees) right at the joint. It's a bit hard to see since it's a black rusticated finish, but my mind says it's there.

    I wash them when new, because I happen to think they smell. If I am refilling an empty jar with a new tobacco, then I wipe it out, and if it still has a strong smell then I wash it, otherwise just wipe and fill.
