    Let’s Talk Brother Theodore

His biography is interesting. He was a Holocaust survivor, a chess hustler, and a monologist. He gave up his stage career and then was convinced to go back to it in later life. He claimed Albert Einstein was a family friend and helped him emigrate to America.

What Are You Listening To? - October, 2024

I’ve been listening to The Doors lately. I find them to be unique. They were often very scary and authentic, even if there’s a little schtick to Morrison’s thing. But the mix of musical styles combined with Morrison’s unrelenting and insisting, and warped lyrics…

Does Anyone Have a Contact for Tsuge or a Japanese Pipe Expert?

I once got Tsuge to answer a question about an old Tsuge pipe. I translated my question using an app. They did actually answer me. Here’s the address I used: info@tsugepipe.co.jp

Puff n' Stuff Broke My Heart

I’m sorry but I couldn’t resist: I saw this show (H.R. Puff N’ Stuff ) streaming on Amazon while sitting with my 4 and 6 year old boys. I couldn’t resist out of sentimentality for my own childhood. This show is truly far out of context in 2024 and my children were puzzled. It’s nearly...

    What are You Reading Now?

I really want to try this translation for something. I read all these Russian novels as a young man probably in pretty "bad" translations.

    What are You Reading Now?

I keep telling myself that I’ll reread these books - having read them all many years ago. At this point, it’s as if I’d never read them. Almost. And there are better translations than what I started with I am sure.

    What are You Reading Now?

I loved Stoner. I thought Butcher’s Crossing was just as good but it’s totally different. What a versatile writer.

    Patent Dunhill Extra Shape Number?

I’ve always wanted a shell like this. The older and newer shells are markedly different. I wonder what it is exactly. I’m guessing it’s many things but the older ones are very craggy. The post-1950 ones become more and more fine and precise. I almost think the word “shell” doesn’t quite describe...

BTW: Clayton’s does a good job. Even others who are well-known eBay sellers/restorers can be a little sloppy with stem renewal. Clayton’s is thorough and they come up with interesting stuff too.

I don’t think the last thread on this was active so this can be deleted if I’m wrong. The reason I was attracted to this C-B the shaping of the shank to stem. That really caught me in a way that other C-Bs hadn’t. It’s elegant.

    Patent Dunhill Extra Shape Number?

I’m sorry that I asked this in a few places but I’d really like to get more ideas on this if possible. 56 is the shape number on this 1950 Dun. Does anyone know what the “-62” means?

    Thunderbirds Are Go

I’m looking this up. I might be regretting this if the kids see it.
