    Show Us Your Bewlay Pipes

So Bewlay does go back. I got confused because pipedia says the company had a different name at one point.

    Show Us Your Bewlay Pipes

I haven’t received this yet. I just won it. The hallmark appears to be 1903. I haven’t see a Bewlay online this quite early though.

    Cultivating a Taste for Tobacco

I just bought Solani Aged Burley Flake. I really want to smoke it but I need some encouragement because I do not like the smell of this stuff. Still, I want to try it. Tell me it gets better as you smoke it…that one gets used to it?

    Collecting Ethos

I was haphazard for a while and I ended up getting rid of a bunch of pipes. I don’t have a large collection of pipes but, now, I only have vintage pipes from English-speaking countries. It didn’t have to be that way and I’d still my branch off some day but I had to impose order on myself. I...

    Questions about Non-Ebonite Stems

Right. The last question is more like, “what goes into making a higher quality acrylic?” “What characterizes higher quality acrylics?” You’ve answered it I think. In vulcanite, higher quality might not oxidize as quickly or they may not be as susceptible to dents. They feel more comfortable. In...

    Questions about Non-Ebonite Stems

Just a few questions for anyone that wants to discuss this topic (which has already been discussed). #1: Why was there a general trend towards plastics in Italian pipe-making? #2 Is “pearlized” a meaningful category in stems? What is it? #3 I’ve seen BBB’s tortoise stems described as having a...

It must be foggy where you live, or are you steaming sea food?

    Ugly Pipes

I wanted to see if the stem really looked that badly fit. It’s better than that picture at least. The stem does fit nicely. But I do not get that aesthetic. Someone will enjoy it? I don’t know about 195$ though. Or maybe there are people who really collect his pipes?

    Charatan Restoration of Sorts

This exact pipe is listed in the ‘51 catalogue with the exact measurements and weight -BTW. I guess that means it’s a Rueben pipe? I’m assuming that this catalogue changed in the 60s and that this pipe went away?

    Charatan Restoration of Sorts

This is listed in the Charatan catalogue as a cutty.

    Charatan Restoration of Sorts

I said I wouldn’t buy this but I did. As you would expect with a Charatan, clearing the oxidation was a job. Me thinks this is a Rueben (inedible)? It’s quite small, 24 grams (as shown in the ‘51 catalogue). I’m not sure though. Very small pipe, two digit #, no letters…Rueben? Late Rueben? I got...
