Why Did you Start Smoking a Pipe, and Why Do You Still?

I Started because I was looking for something to help me slow down. To have at least one time in the day that makes me stop and just enjoy the moment. I had no idea I would like it so much and end up having a bunch of pipes and tobacco and checking out this forum every day!

That's great, not to open a rabbit hole but any blends you recommend? English, Burley, Virginia/Burley?

    Watch City Slices Discontinued

I didn't realize these guys were in Mass, do you know if they have a store front or is just on-line sales? I visit my Dad about an hour from there a few times a year and it would be great to stop in.

    Caption This

From the Farside... "Although trying to stay calm, Jim realized after the false light that he left his oversized tamper and pipe cleaners at home and panic was setting in."

    Tongue Bite Syndrome

Same here, I enjoy it but the taste from the lighting process stays with me the whole smoke and then some. It's a hard one to judge as far as moisture, maybe it needs more drying time even though it already feels like grape nuts? I've never had 5 brothers, is it similar?

    Storing Flakes and Cakes

    Storing Flakes and Cakes

Thanks, that makes sense. I don't buy it to age but it might sit in the jar for up to a year or so and I was just wondering if the different tobaccos would meld better pressed or loose. Most likely either way the difference wouldn't be that noticeable to make a difference. I kind of like to...

    Storing Flakes and Cakes

I saw some older threads on this but I was wondering what people thought about storing flakes or cakes once out of the tin and transferred to jars. Is there any advantage to keeping them in flakes as opposed to breaking them up? Will they age better one way or the other?

    Meerschaum Tenon Question

I agree, drilling out the tenon will help. I've also drilled into the stem on the tenon side but you have to be a little daring for that. If you're really daring, you could drill out the shank as well for more airflow but most people would rather have a professional do that. If you ruin a...

***What Are You Smoking, July 2022?***

Some John Cotton's Double pressed Burley gifted to me by AMDG in a Chris Askwith. This is really enjoyable stuff, crumble cake Burley/Virginia/Dark Fired, right up my alley.

    New Female Member

Welcome from Chicago, those are great goals indeed. Used pipes are called "estate pipes" in the pipe smoking world. Look up "cleaning estate pipes" on this forum and youtube and you will have more than enough to go on. Btw, I have a good friend who is a woman and she smokes pipes too, you're not...

    Flounder

Growing up near Boston my friends and I would charter a boat from Gloucester (pronounced Glosta) and fish off of Novia Scotia. Halibut, Mackerel, Flounder, Bluefish, and the occasional sand shark. I would bring some to my Dad that night and we'd cook it up. Hook to plate in the same day...so good!

    Flounder

I remember those days! The water was so thick and oily, it's much better now I believe. We would blame Gov. Mike Dukakis but I don't think it was his fault :)
