I’ve never seen such a multitude of different tenon styles until I started looking for a second meerschaum pipe. I have an altinay that is a standard push pull tenon. There is a language barrier between me and the carver here so he’s just been sending my pictures of the tenons on his pipes. Most are clearly push pull but this one stumped me. It’s not a twist tenon but I can’t tell if it’s quite push pull. Does anyone have experience with a tenon like this on their meerschaum pipe?

It's a screw in mortise and tenon insert. Only remove and replace the stem by twisting it clockwise or you risk wearing out the threads in the meerschaum.

In your experience is the draw tighter on these or is it six to one half a dozen to the other between these and push pull? The seller has another bent apple that is a push pull tenon but aesthetically I prefer billiard in the picture.

The draw is tight as the diameter of the bore in the tenon is only 2mm. You can get that up to 2.5mm by hand turning a 3mm drill bit through it.

I agree, drilling out the tenon will help.

I've also drilled into the stem on the tenon side but you have to be a little daring for that. If you're really daring, you could drill out the shank as well for more airflow but most people would rather have a professional do that. If you ruin a tenon you can always buy more but if you ruin the shank you're in big trouble.

My newest meerschaum is like this and I thought this was a push pull tenon. ?‍♂️
It is a push tenon. You don't unscrew this, it's just an insert put in by the maker. Normal operation is still a regular push tenon. But Ember pointed out when you pull it apart you don't want to twist the wrong direction or it will slowly screw out of the pipe.
