    39 Cent Missouri Meerschaum Cobs

VirginiaCob - I'm always amazed at the respect you have for MoMeer, even tho you are in direct competition with them. That says a great deal about you, your company, and the respect and love you have for the hobby. My hat is off, sir.

    Civil War Pipe Smokers

    +1! Good call!

    A real man's hat

Bradley, when a man walks down the street in that hat, you know he ain't afraid of nothin'.

    My First Dunhill

Very nice sandblast on that piece, and a great price.

    New estate Meer.

Nice, Jason! I'm interested to see how it cleans up, if you decide to. Looks great as it is.

    Preferred Staining Method

I wish I could find a nice golden stain like my Tsuge: I'm hoping Fiebing's light brown will do.

    A real man's hat

Man, I wish I could wear a classy hat. My noggin is so large and mis-shaped that hats make me look like a pretentious idiot. Great pics, tho, and kudos to the classy guys who can pull off that look.

    Kaywoodie Topped Dunhill in Price

And remember, those Dunnies had to be imported, and might even have faced a duty. I have heard it said that upper-grade pre-war Kaywoodies were the equal of the Dunhill and sold for about the same price -$15 or so. I dunno. I've never smoked a Dunhill, but I have a couple of older Kaywoodies...

    Preferred Staining Method

I have only used Fiebing's in my short restoration career. As for tips... A. Wear old clothes 2. A little goes a long way.

    Dr Grabow 9711

Thanks, all. I've got 40-some pipes, a few of them rather expensive, but this Grabow out-smokes them all.

    The Breakfast Club

7:42am - Already had my breakfast and a bowl of Charlemagne on my way to work. I hate to get up in the morning, but there is no better time than that hour before dawn!

    Interview with 2 B&Ms: Smoky's Cigar and Gatlin-Burlier Tobacconist

Good article from Fred, as always. I patronize Smoky's when I can, but haven't been up to G-burg since I picked up the pipe.

    Dr Grabow 9711

Thanks, Sam - you are exactly right on those numbers. From RJ's Dr Grabow page. I have read that page a dozen times, and never caught that bit of information.

    Dr Grabow 9711

This is a pot Grabow that I picked up in a bag of pipes last year. It was one of my first restorations, and needs to be restored again soon. He's one of my favorite pipes. I mentioned this pipe and the shape number in another post a couple weeks ago, and EJames said he'd like to see the...

    Humble Excellence

+1 Allan-- If it's drilled right and properly constructed, no reason why it shouldn't give a good smoke. I think there is enough variance in machine-made pipes that a great pipe occasionally slips thru the system! :P

Have Had My Hands Full..... (Pic Heavy!)

Top, as always, thank you for your service. And a big thank you to your bride, as well, for her service - from the pictures of your happy family, she has done "the toughest job" very well. Anyway, thanks for coming by and filling us in. You have been missed!

    My Home for Unwanted Pipes

I have two Grabows. One is a Crown Duke filter pipe that always satisfies. The second is my current favorite pipe... It's a generic Grabow pot shape, marked "9711". I bought a junk lot of pipes last year, and this one was stuffed in the bag. Took a long time to clean it up, but I was sure...

How to create the bevel on top of the bowl.

I wondered about this for a long time, and tried to imagine what sort of tool one would need. But Zack tells it like it is - get some paper and get to sanding! A light touch and a lot of patience is the key. My suggestion is to buy up some Missouri Meerschaum hardwood pipes and bend them to...

    Keep It or Toss it?

Very nice rustication. Especially for a first attempt!

    Sam Spade

Sam did smoke roll-ups in the book, Hollywood was faithful there. But the book also states that Sam "looked like a blond Satan".
