***What Are You Smoking, March 2024?***

A super secret Sutliff project in my MM Cadel.

    White Spots on Meerschaum- What?

It's a mineral. All kinds of little eccentricities when you look closely.

    Briar Stem Issues

Softie bit, put it on a shelf, or only smoke it when you have a hand free so you do not clench it.

    Briar Stems Anyone?

Unfortunately, you discovered the answer to your own question. Why not more? Because they are, in fact, abysmal. They look cool until you smoke them enough, and they dry out your mouth. I have them for looks, but do not choose to smoke them very often.

    Chicago 2024: Who's going?

Still making things for the table. Running out of time.

    Cringle Flake

None of my tins had mold. Definitely the driest year but that's how I like my tobacco.

    Chicago 2024: Who's going?

I have not seen you in forever. Looking forward to it.

    Show Off Your Kaywoodie Pipes

Yeah, Bill was short on lovat stems so I was only able to do a few. If I recall correctly, chimneys and billiards. Actually, I may even have a picture.

Only nine or ten of those in existence. I kept number zero. Those are from the first release, numbered 1 to 50 but a few shapes. I released them at the first Capitaland Pipe show.

A ton of these were made for different schools. There were likely a few shapes available. They are super cool.

I started with hobby blocks like most. Then I went to pipe shows and befriended makers. I went to NC to train with Jim Brown of Heisenberg Pipes, and PA to learn some from Tony Warner. Then Time Thorpe. Then when I became friends with Bill we talked shop and I got to use all of the old...

    Bending Vulcanite?

I have bent hundreds of vulcanite stems. Heat gun until warm and bend. I would avoid hot water bringing oxidation to the surface. Your hands get used to it. I never plug the airway, just watch the angle of the bend and do not get too extreme until you get enough practice.

Who Has a Job He Actually Loves?

I gave up those six figures to sell pipes, and I love it. It is not always easy, but it is fun.

Sorry for the delay. Life has been a bit crazy. Greywoodie pipes started life in October of 2022. I was a handmade pipe maker, still am sometimes, under nQa Pipes. But Greywoodie the retail company started carrying Kaywoodie pipes, I launched in April of 2019. Spending so much time at the...

Where Did the High End Kaywoodies Go?

Until Bill got sick I had Connoisseurs and Hand Mades, not to mention Flame Grain and Unique, along with a few more high end lines. They did not go anywhere. Centennial was always meant to be a limited release. Like the Anniversary pipes I had made, only 100 of those.

    An Interesting Kaywoodie Meerschaum

As we talked about, super rare and no real record of this particular pipe. Crazy!

    Chicago 2024: Who's going?

I do believe that I will be there.

    Old Kaywoodie Rarity

Unsmoked are pretty rare but it happens. There are so many collectable lines it is hard to know where to start. Plus I buy them all up, so there is that. Lol.
