Dude! You don't eat it, you smoke it.

How Long Do Aros Keep Their Taste?

I have a very, very limited experience. Actually, probably I shouldn't even be typing this, but here it goes. With the only two tinned blends I have stored, they have not lost their flavor. What I have are Gold Block from the 90s (the older Ogden version, not Mac Baren's) and Edgeworth Ready...

    Codgers: Tubs or Jars

I would keep the tub just because I love to use the pipe to scoop the tobacco directly from the can.

Samuel Gawith Tins and LJ Peretti paint cans?

To the OP: well, I went to look for some old tins to show. These first 4 pics all have tins older than 20 years. As you can see, all look like new, storing them in boxes like I explained elsewhere. Some of the following tins may not be as old, but they are all from before 2010. I tried...

Samuel Gawith Tins and LJ Peretti paint cans?

I never had problems with SG tins. Some of the ones I have are over 20 years old and show no signs of rust on the outside. These are FVF and St. James Flake tins. I don't cellar other SG tins. Similarly, never had a problem with Peretti's paint cans. I put a seal of silicone glue around the...

Ferrous Tins inside Mylar - A Quick Recipe For Disaster?

I see many overthinking storage. My tins are stored in containers that are hermetically closed and with one of these (or similar) inside: I have 30 year old tins without signs of rust that lived in Mississippi for years before being transported to Colorado, and are still going strong...

Making Cake with Shake that Ash method

This was done 10 or 15 years ago, therefore I don't remember the exact specifics, but I did the test because a dude called James Beard (I think) on ASP used to advocate this method. I used 3 or 4 pipes (one I remember for sure was an Ashton) reamed pretty thin, but still with some cake. All the...

Making Cake with Shake that Ash method

I tried the ash-shaking method several times. I never found the cake to be any different from my other pipes, but I also found that it didn't accelerate cake formation at all. After trying it in several pipes I gave it up and never looked back.

    Show Off Your Petersons Here!

Here's my take on that. Now, this is my only Peterson: I like that they are affordable, but I'm not willing to put the work that's needed to clean them, therefore never got another one.

    HU director's Cut- a lament

Yes, this was a great blend. Saving the last two tins for special occasions.

Help a Fella Out with Burley

MacBaren Navy Flake and Wessex Burley Slice are another two very good burley blends.

    Lots Of Open Tins

I only have one or two tins open at one given time, at most. For me, the tobacco seems to loose some of its character soon after a tin is opened, one or two weeks after opening at the latest. Tried all sorts of methods to preserve it for longer periods of time with different levels of success...

    Briping?

Show Off Your Meerschaum Pipes Here!

There are beautiful Meerschaum pipes in this thread. I always liked them, but I must admit that, as far as smoking goes, they're not for me. I have two that just reside sadly in a drawer. The first is a Fikri Baki: The second is IMP: All I can say is that I bought them in the late 90s and...

    Briping?

I love it. I can see myself using it on a camping trip. Not walking around, though, just sitting by the fire enjoying the evening. Will file this one for future reference.

Can We Talk About Water Glass (Sodium Silicate)?

The water glass function is in bonding the carbon. You can replace it with other agents, if you're not comfortable with it. Of course, if you are concerned about inhaling it into your lungs, you should know that there are other things in the smoke that probably are much worse...
