    FDA fallout?

Not sure if the new FDA regs will deny small bulk purchases ( I.e. anything distributed in a zip top baggie). That would be a shame, as I've been waiting to pull the trigger on the hearth & home midtown series samples - half of them have been backordered since last summer or fall!

Pipe to but for a career change at 36

With an MBA in hand I entered corporate America in 1998. In 2011 I left it to follow God's leading into ministry, where I got my M.Div. There is no perfect job, there are no perfect people, but getting to choose the stress you face is priceless - even under a mountain of debt. Smoke on my...

    Southern NH group?

    OK thanks.

    Southern NH group?

Anyone here affiliated with a club in New Hampshire? I live in Nashua. I don't think there are any pipe tobacco stores here - they're all cigars and vapors.

    Jury Duty

My wife is worried about being selected (notice came couple weeks ago) because we cannot afford her to miss her regular job. This jury nullification stuff is gold. I hope it works here in New Hampshire.

    Meadowlark Lemon Has Passed

The half-court hook shot he did is still etched in my mind. Amazing person with amazing skills ... RIP.

    Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

To my brethren and sistren of the pipe world: May your 2016 be as full as your pipe. Thank you all who have gifted me tobaccos from which to learn (only started in August) - there is still so much tobacco out there - please don't stop! I have learned so much from reading your words - thank you...

    corporations drug screening for nicotine.

@gloucesterman - Another facet of the database: When medical people ask me if I smoke, I answer “no” because they are really asking, “Do you inhale a substance that is made from 4,000 chemicals, including 43 known carcinogenic compounds and 400 other toxins, including formaldehyde, ammonia...

    No Going Back

I have received generous samples of tobaccos I could never afford or would think of buying. If any of you beginners are offered samples, please say yes – there’s a whole big world out there that you know nothing about, and the generosity of those here is genuine. My first months of OTC aros and...

    First question to the experts!

My 2 cents: I started in August 2015, so I am a newbie like you with no tobacco past. I was concerned about cash outlay, so this is what I did: 1. I started with this - http://www.pipesandcigars.com/samplers/77048/corn-in-the-usa-ii-gift-set/#p-140355 but I would also add a 1.5 oz. pouch of...

    Newbie Non-Aromatic comparison

CONTENDERS: Velvet; Carter Hall; Sir Walter Raleigh Wanted to share with beginners, as I am one. I smoked ½ bowls of each back to back to back in about 90 minutes. Smoke #1: Velvet This has, in the past, been difficult to keep lit. Not today. But apart from the act of smoking, I got nothing...

    Factual tobacco descriptions?

As I turn the corner on month #3 of pipe smoking, I also had issue with this. I purchased a 9 oz. bag of Cherry Cav when I first started, and I spent the first months puffing like mad trying to attain these mythical descriptions. But as Tyler states, you eventually pick up subtle nuances and...

    Dumping ashes before relight

@lee - I have so many other questions, but I thought I'd start with one I considered less controversial. Looks like I need to recalibrate my internal rating system. I guess I better wait on my "I don't like Carter Hall" post ... (uh-oh, now I've done it ...)

Am I missing something as a beginner?

I really and genuinely appreciate ALL of your posts, because they are all facets of this great big gem we call “pipe smoking.” I know I am a beginner, but my M.B.A. degree (I worked for Sun Microsystems and Philips before my call into ministry) makes me analyze the process of those things with...

Am I missing something as a beginner?

I love pipe forums and all the information shared. However, having been at this for only 2 months and with no other tobacco in my past, I sometimes feel that the threads are so high level that I just stare like a deer in the headlights. I am on step #2 and the rest of you are on step #127. Did I...

    Ethyl Rubbing Alcohol

I am still amazed that this post is getting responses. You guys are awesome! Such wealth of information (but maybe i should have paid attention more in my chemistry classes).

    Ethyl Rubbing Alcohol

I do not drink and have been using ethyl rubbing alcohol (70%) as my cleaner for my cobs (don't own briars). I had a choice of either METHYL rubbing alcohol or ETHYL rubbing alcohol and for whatever reason I chose the latter. 1. I have come to the conclusion most are opposed to using this on...
