Initial Enthusiasm Resulted in Acquisition Disorders

I have heard of this "over buying" - certainly never experienced it MYSELF, but I know of it in others. Don't look at it as over-acquisition, look at it as under-desiring. Learn to love all of them for various reasons, like we do with our uglier children and dumber dogs. But if you want to...

    MBSD PAD slip up.

Woops! I got married once like that. Lovely pipe - I hope it doesn't run off to Myrtle Beach with the UPS driver.

My First Commissioned Pipe (Abe Herbaugh)

Wow, you nailed it. I adore that aesthetic - nobody does perfect stems and beautiful metal ferrule rings like the Danes. I'm a Neerup/Jeppesen addict for this reason. I guess I have to add West Virginia into that mix!

    Morta Pipes Experiences?

I've worked so much oak in so many different forms and capacities from firewood to fine home furnishings, that I'm mortally afraid of oak splinters. I can't look at some of the photos I've seen of morta pipes without reaching for a pair of leather gloves.

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

I remember those ads! I also seem to remember him from Police Story - one of the great repositories of "hey! it's that guy!" character actors in the world.

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

I can NOT get off my addiction to Sutliff Virginia Slices. It's really good, and that goodness persists. I like it better than Luxury Navy Flake which always seems harsh. I have a lot of LNF on hand but it's going to be a deep cellar item to come back to in a couple of years. Slices I find...

    JimInks, I've Gotta Ask.

I really appreciate and enjoy JimInks reviews, but not for the palate notes, which I know I'm just genetically not predisposed to pick up. I don't know what a "dry soda" flavor is for instance. Palate is such a personal thing based on personal experience and how YOU taste the world (how...

    Beat the Gurgling!! Here's how . . . . .

I'm working in a new Peterson now - the draft hole is pretty dang high in the chamber, and it smokes like a champ. (It's also very high in the stem hole - you can forget passing a pipe cleaner without disassembly.) Dry and consistent. And that's with VA flakes - to me the most problematic...

    Seek Larger Peterson.

Thanks very much for the advice. I never was an Oom Paul guy so it looks like a House pipe might fill the size and style.

    Seek Larger Peterson.

Title edited for caps and brevity. Original: Help me with my next (larger) Peterson I just bought my first new, in the box, sock and all, Peterson. After lots of perusin', I set to choosin', and I got a lovely Christmas 2023 model 230, sandblast. To me it's the perfect full bent shape...

    How Much is Too Much?

The old timers used to live with a pipe in their mouth. Tolkien said "Every morning I wake up and think, Ahhh...another 24 hours of pipe smoking."

    Look What I Found…

I haven’t opened my single tin of Sansepulcro! I got the very last one that I saw for sale and I guess I’m saving it for…something? Im sure I will pop this Penzance. My cellar is half twenty year old tins and have 3 month old. I need to start enjoying the old stuff while waiting for the babies...

Smoking to the Bottom of the Bowl.

I just pack based on draw. It should be slightly harder to draw on the packed bowl than an empty one. If you’re able to mash the tobacco into a shape and it holds that shape, to me that’s too wet. Also I look at the bottom eighth inch of tobacco as basically a filter. If you do light it, to...

Pipes and Cigars Online Store. Never Again.

Correct, I am sure they have a very hard time maintaining consistency from such a small handmade crop as tobacco, sourced from some of the worlds roughest neighborhoods sometimes.

    Look What I Found…

Having started back after a near 20 year hiatus, I’ve started buying again and have gone back through all my old tins, finding some really nice things. But I happened to look down and sitting on a random shelf was a lovely little tin of Penzance, still tight as a drum, from 2009. I don’t know...

Shoutout for Williams Tobacco, Cleveland, TN

Just a heads up for those in southeast TN that are looking for a nice shop with a good assortment of Diehl, Pease, MacB, etc. Williams Tobacco is a BnM that I always try to patronize and if you’re coming down I 75 on the way to Atlanta it’s worth a 15 minute detour if you need a tin. Plus, one...

Pipes and Cigars Online Store. Never Again.

Well I buy usually about every two weeks and have made about ten orders with PandC and all have been perfectly executed. I’ve asked customer service a couple of questions and always got a personal response from a very nice lady in usually about 6 hours. They have a few things you can’t get...
