    Colin Fromm Info Please

Colin Fromm worked with Colin Leeson at Invicta Briars based in "The old ragged School" in Chatham. Originally starting out as a repair shop, they began producing their own pipes under the Invicta label. They also produced pipes and did stem work, for other companies. I've seen trays of pipes in...

James Upshall Pipes - A Discussion

Tilshead pipes have had the JU on the mouthpiece since the late 1990's, so I don't really see how this be deemed to "tarnish the product". And as for the price, it strikes me as reasonable for the quality - yes there may be a flaw or pits, but never any fills.

James Upshall Pipes - A Discussion

I've seen a few DS pipes come up over the years, I cant remember whether they had a grade stamp or not. Perhaps Ken can enlighten us. We cant ask Desmond - passed away a few years ago.

James Upshall Pipes - A Discussion

DS=Desmond Sautter - a high end tobacconists in Mayfair. Its not a grade of pipe - simply a stamping for pipes sold in his shop

Astley Pipes = Re-Stamped Estate Pipes (Photos)

No shop - I was just making a delivery to his house. I did meet Barry Jones about 5 years ago down at the factory in Wiltshire

Waluljan : the ebay user "robski" is not me, he, or she is canadian and I live in the UK. Pitchfork: I saw the pipe in question on Wednesday of this week as I had a delivery to make to Moty's house. Moty buys pipes for 2 reasons. First is his own collection, this runs into many thousands...

Pitchfork: I've seen and handled this pipe, it is not a fresh engraving

Well, I've actually seen the GBD pipe in question. Nothing fake about it - its stamped GBD and has a metal GBD on the stem. Its not stamped "own Make" - That was just a poor choice of words. The so called fresh engraving is just a trick of the flash.

    Opinions Sought: Savinelli Punto Oro

Reading the other contributions is fascinating, it makes me wonder whether the Estellas that were on the UK market were different to elsewhere. My recollection of them is that they were sold very cheaply especially when compared to a Punto Oro or Autograph. On the other hand, its possible that...

Astley Pipes = Re-Stamped Estate Pipes (Photos)

The ones in the shop ( Bentley era) were also without marking, so I wouldn't read too much into that

    Opinions Sought: Savinelli Punto Oro

My understanding was that the Estella line was pretty low in the Savinelli line up, where as the Punto oro was just one down from the Autographs

Origins of Dunhill and Peterson Pipes?

Colin Fromm still hand turns a number of Dunhill pipes at the old Invicta factory in Chatham. As for the rest, I've heard Spain mentioned many times

    Peterson's Irish Flake

Try mixing some 50:50 with 1792 - its very very tasty. However, I will not be held responsible if you wake up face down on Pluto!
