kcghost, as usual, I'm late to the party.

    You Tube Pipe Channel

I just came across this quite by accident. It's quintessentially English and just has a slow comfortable feel to it. Here's an encapsulation from the channel: "Musings, readings, welcome and conviviality from poet, priest and scholar, Malcom Guite". It won't be for everybody, but it's worth...

Watch Out or Watch on? Pt 2.

I used to love wrist watches, but gave them up, as someone else mentioned, they started to annoy me. Especially, in hot humid summer. Above, is an 1890s Swiss Domain Roman key wind, a early 1900s Elgin and (who knew!) a 1970s Timex pocket watch.

    Ruminations on Inflation

+1 supply/demand. I think the U.S. increases it's population to the tune of 100 million every 40 years, give or take. Supply-- static; demand-- ever increasing.

    Making a zippo even better

Nice work, CDR McBragg. I love Zippos and their link to American culture and important historical events. When my dad passed I was lucky enough to find his Viet Nam war Zippo issued to him in 1965. I recently went on a Zippo binge on ebay. Lots of very unusual Zippos out there in e-commerce...

    The Sound of a Zippo

Zippo is definitely a piece of Americanna. Most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten... these go to eleven.

May as well throw these in for good measure.

    Seeking Exceptional Bourbons

It was given a brief mention. Any of the Jim Beam small batch bourbons are very good: Booker's, Baker's, Basil Hayden and Knob Creek. Very good values imo.

No Taste out of my Newish Peterson

I've had pipes like that. A couple of higher end estates-- an absolutely beautiful 2000 Pipe of the Year Ser Jacopo and a Costello 1999 Pipe of the Year. The only thing I could taste in the Costello were G&H ropes. In the Ser Jacopo all tobacco tasted far away and faint. A brand new Pete...

Which In Production Blends Have A Vinegary BBQ Tin Note?

I never smelled it in a new tin of Briar Fox. I went through just a couple of tins before I gave up on that particular blend, but I don't remember any vinegar smell. As an aside, I just opened up some aged SG Kedal Plug-- very distinct vinegar smell.

Fly-fishing And No Need To Catch A Fish

Nice springtime thread! I started to fly fish a bit when I lived in Utah back in the late 80s/early 90s. Fished the Green some in NE Utah. I do miss that. I've been thinking I might pick it up again down here in south MS fishing river sand bars and using poppers for bream. My late father had...

Ever Wondered Why Molasses Was/Is Added To Tobacco?

You're welcome, Jay. A little late with my reply-- touring through the Mississippi Delta on the Indian with the wife on our way to Arkansas. davek/Jay, I remember from middle school history learning about the American/British Caribbean molasses trade . Funny, there was no mention of all that...
