The only good news is that it looks like it is near the top of the pipe bowl. Strange that 4 bowls is all it took for that to appear. Would smoking it produce some caking and seal it or, would smoking it make it worse? As Sartre said: "man is condemned to freedom".

If that can happen to a Dunhill it could happen to anyone. I always thought they were the best, now not so sure.
I was just referring something that a forum member did on every Dunhill thread for a while.

As for quality, they tend to have higher than average materials and fit and finish. My issue with them is that new prices are way high in my opinion.

I don't know if this info will help the OP or not, but I have an old Stanwell with the same kind of crack, but probably a little worse as it crosses the top to the outside of the bowl. It was there when I got the pipe as an estate about 6 years ago, and after smoking it fairly regularly since, it has not gotten any worse. I originally thought about doing something about it but took a wait and see attitude, but it never got worse so I just left it alone. Still smokes fine, but I don't know if that will give you much consolation.

This crack will bother you forever. Every time you smoke the pipe you will check to see if it has changed. Even when you go to bed, you will be thinking about it and the fact that your pipe is somehow less.

Throw it away and be done with the misery.
Not that simple. This is the holy grail of pipes to me. Watching Rathbone smoke his on the movies is what got me into pipe smoking to begin with. :-/
