I won’t tell you that it’s a crack, but it does look like a crack.

Still, the pipe may smoke for years without any further issues.

I posted this in the main forum too but as I’m still kind of new I didn’t know whether or not it should go in here. Sable told me it looked like a crack, but my AI is swearing it’s just bowl coat splitting. It’s a 2021 POTY with probably 5 smokes in it, less than 10 to be certain.

If it is a crack, what should I do? I have no experience with pipe mud, is it repairable? Should I send it to someone?

Looks like a crack. Lick your finger, wipe the saliva over the affected area to dampen it, and press some ash into it. Smoke as usual and a carbon layer will eventually cover it.

Looks like a crack. Lick your finger, wipe the saliva over the affected area to dampen it, and press some ash into it. Smoke as usual and a carbon layer will eventually cover it.

No way to know. Just smoke it. (I have a pipe with a bowl crack in the same place that hasn't moved in 35 years)

That's because it isn't cracked as badly. (Mine goes through to the chamber)

And as I said, it's been smoked regularly since 1990. She no move.

So just take some ash from the next smoke and mix it with my spit and pack it into that little area then let it dry? How long? 24–48?

I'd just wipe spit on the crack, press ash into it, wipe away the excess, fill the pipe and smoke it.
