I am interested in your experience with W. I smoke 333 on occasion.
I smoked two bowls of Blend W in a small Tom Eltang billiard and the Burley & Latakia were very tasty, along with something I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I smoked a third bowl today in a large Castello apple and midway through got a floral, Lakeland-like taste that I really didn’t care for. No idea why I didn’t detect it earlier. Anyone else who is familiar with Blend W who has noted a floral quality? Is this the “bit of spice” LJP is describing In its note?

If anyone has had both, I'm curious if any of the LJP burley blends are in the ballpark of Watch City's Waltham blend or Deluxe Crumb Cut. I'd like to try more blends in the vein of those two.

333 is my favorite Peretti blend, followed by no. 8 slices. Enjoy!
I find 333 to be a smooth smoke, and its cube cut burley is obviously top quality. But as JimInks noted in a review, 333 is like a refined version of that codger favorite, Carter Hall. The smoke is uneventful and predictable with little nuance or surprise. In a word, it’s rather boring, although sometimes boring can be a good thing

A number of people have gotten hints of Lakeland-like floral flavor popping up even in blends that aren't allegedly topped with it -- I just assume it's the cross pollination, so to speak, that might happen in a small, by-hand blending shop.

To respond to Mike N's excellent description, I don't think it's the Latakia that gives Blend W the spice note -- it's a dried chile taste, not smokey or perfumy, and JimInks says in his review that it's coming from the Burley. I like it, but it may not be to everybody's taste.

333 is good, solid burley, plain and simple (or not so plain, if you've got one of those fine-tuned palates).

To me, Deluxe Crumb Cut is a crossover aro blend; the cocoa and licorice note is very up front -- I think it works really well with the burley, but it's a different category from blends like 333 or even W. DD is in the same crossover category, but with that LJP soapy stuff, it's going in a completely different direction -- sometimes I think it's great, sometimes I'm thinking, "why did they ruin a perfectly good bunch of burley with this S%$#?"

Haven't tried WCC Waltham, but I'm adding it to the list. Ernie Q. is one of the best!

As I always do, I jarred all five bags. Two ounces of loose pipe tobacco fits tightly into a 4 ounce jar.

So far the W. looks really the most interesting because it is a cube cut. I did smoke a bowl of the Cuban Mixture on my walk with the Doberman tonight and it was as good as I remembered.

Yes, I always ask for a few extra paper labels when the blends come in plastic bags and they are always generously supply a few at no charge. That’s the first time in 67 years anyone’s ever complimented my penmanship, but I guess in comparison it is a bit nicer than….
Nothing wrong with your penmanship sir.

Of those, I've only had 52, No Name and 333...

And of those 3, my favorite personally was No. 52.

If you haven't had them, DD and No. 102 are other favorites of mine from them. Can't guarantee you'll like either one, but I would recommend anyone try them that's interested in LJP burley.
A second for Blend DD . . . I get a graham cracker note with that blend . . . Makes me want chase it with a glass of milk!

I guess I have been following how they have their tobaccos listed with Burley, Cavendish, English, and hadn't made it down to the Flake blends. Ha ha. Cuban was the first one I bought the big can of, and have been a fan of most everything I have tried, but some better than others. I love that you can buy an ounce of something and give it a try before committing to more. Thanks for the flake suggestions!
