Then throw in Digital ID, a single identifier for authentication to all systems, and everything will be lovely! These people are sprinting with their pants round their ankles. The desperate, unseemly hurry to some invisible deadline, chunks flying off the faster they go.

I'm just hanging in long enough to see it all go bang.

Does this mean that technology does not always equal progress?
Progress is a myth. We're still the same shit-chucking apes we were 10,000 years ago, we can now just fling it more efficiently.

There is a deeper reason why “humanity” will never control technology. Technology is not something that humankind can control. It as an event that has befallen the world.

Once a technology enters human life — whether it be fire, the wheel, the automobile, radio, television, or the internet — it changes it in ways we can never fully understand.

[…]

Nothing is more commonplace than to lament that moral progress has failed to keep pace with scientific knowledge. If only we were more intelligent and more moral, we could use technology only for benign ends. The fault is not in our tools, we say, but in ourselves.

In one sense this is true. Technical progress leaves only one problem unsolved: the frailty of human nature. Unfortunately that problem is insoluble.

Critical thinking has always been in short supply. Most people are untrained and mostly rely on just their emotions to make decisions. AI is just what those folks don't need - a magic Oracle that seemingly has all the answers.
I’ll dissent here.
People don’t need to be “trained” to think critically. It’s the trained lapdogs that usually create the problems in the first place.

AI is mostly garbage.
Youtube used to be a great sorce of information. It still is if you avoid the MASSIVE amount of AI videos.
There are apps that for $4.99 a month, you can input ONE sentence and it will spit out a 20 minute video on that topic....narrated by your choice of AI voices. But, about 80% of the information is incorrect, misrepresented, or just plain lies.
There are youtubers with millions of views on these videos. This means they are making upwards of $4,000 a MONTH.

I think you might be confusing critical thinking with indoctrination.😉

I think you might be confusing training with indoctrination.

EDIT: I'm the spawn of a public school, so I don't really know the difference myself anyway. I did however have a Magic 8 Ball as a kid, and it cleared up a lot of confusion for me...it was proto-AI for millions of us.
