Bill Bailey's Balkan Blend from 2011. I’ve read people saying that Latakia decays with time, but that has not been my experience. In this particular case, the Latakia became more accentuated and dominating, and the blend lost some of its sweetness. Also, as you can see, it didn’t darken much. But, most importantly, you can also see that in 2011 the price of 1 lb was about half of what it is today, even before counting the taxes...

I have had my eyes on this blend too. The reviews noting the chocolate topping have kept me away from trying any. How do you like it?
I'm on the first bowl now.
I opened it last week to let it breathe a bit.
I dont taste any chocolate, nor do I smell it in the tin.
Like an idiot I went to TR just for fun.
The reviews are all over the place.
Some say this is a goopy berry aromatic, some say it doesn't seem to contain any Red Virginia, and some say it tastes like candy.
I get none of that. I realized that, as usual, many reviewers do not know what fermenting Va and Perique smell like. They smell a strong fruit topping......I smell fermenting tobacco.
It's pretty mellow. The Perique is barely noticeable, and it's DEFINITELY Red Virginia. The K&K website says this blend has light flavoring, and a chocolate AROMA. I'm not sure if it even has a chocolate topping. It would not be anywhere near the first time TR was wrong.
I'm a fan of Red Virginia, and this seems good so far.
Heck, one guy said it's a dead ringer for 5100. :) .......it's not.

Care to compare/contrast between the two?
Torben Dansk, as you’d expect, has more of a fermented maduro cigar flavor and a prominent dark chocolate aroma. Between the two, it’s a little sweeter and a little rounder.

C&D was rougher and more natural tasting. Some dark chocolate, but mainly nuts, malt, oak, and bitter herbal flavors. There was a slightly boozy, fermented smell at first crack of the tin but it didn’t hang around.

Sam Gawith Fire Dance Flake from 2023-09

This tin hissed at me when I opened it, unlike the Balkan Mixture (where I was able to pull open the lid without assistance of a pipe tool), so the seal was still good. Pleasant, light aroma of blackberries.
Good stuff. It surpassed DAN Devil’s Holiday a while back as my favorite berry. If you haven’t, and you enjoy the FireDance, you should try Devil’s Holiday….

Ive never tried this so I'm popping a "fresh" tin to see if I need more. Sometimes you see something while window shopping at Mars and think, "why have I not tried that?"
This is from 11/23.

I bought 2 tins of it dated the day before yours. I smoked one and stashed the other. I really enjoyed it. There were a couple of bowls that gave me a distinct strawberry flavor and generally I find it to be sweet, fruity and very easy on the palate. I don't get any chocolate from it but the perique does shine through in a quite subtle way.
