Wow! What a memory! A pipe pal snapped the perfect selfie with the Pope coming out of an event in NYC. He was in the right place at the right time. RIP
They backpacked traveled in Rome, but she had to have her wedding dress to meet the Pope.
A few weeks after these photos, I was working in NY. A group of Catholic schoolgirls came into the travelplaza. A Franciscan brother and nun were with the group. I spoke to the brother, and asked where he went to school. Turns out that he graduated with my daughter and knew her. He asked how she was doing (Catholic schoolteacher). I said she just met the Pope to have her wedding blessed. I showed them these pictures. When the little elementary school girls saw the pictures, they all started crying. It was weird! (I never got used to meeting these guys in friar gear).

A lot of public figures who couldn't countenance the Pope's views on policy are lining up to attend his funeral for political expediency.
Disagreements in beliefs, political, social and so forth do not necessarily preclude mutual respect. Well, except for the close minded ideologues. They will brook no spoken or written dissent to their ideological beliefs. Adults can agree to disagree without such affecting mutual respect or... even friendship.

Did you know that when I was a kid, there was a tobacco shop at every station on the A line? A lot of my pipe smoking has to do with the A line and those tobacco shops.
My tobacco shop was on Esmeralda. It was Bellagio back then and became Davidoff and now is Bellagio again I think. I was there before he renovated the basement and put in cigar lockers, and people like Grondona started showing up. And then La Casa del Habano, the proprietor at that time being Martin Guevara, Che's brother.

Yes. Yes. I was in that basement.
