Sean stranahan series by Keith mcCafferty. Just finishing the last book. Montana, fly fishing, detective novel… even a little pipe smoking.

I found Magic Mountain tough going too and I don't think I ever finished it.
I've had to put it down for a while. There were some great cigar discussions, but Uggg... why is this on lists for best 20th century novels? I will try to finish it, but... it is a tough read, mostly just from not being able to relate to the perspectives of the characters.

I read this many years ago before I went to Australia, thought it was time to pick it up again. Very interesting read on how a flotilla of convicts, criminals, and n'er do wells founded Australia.

The Pigeon Tunnel by John Le Carre amongst other things.

Fascinating auto-biographical journey through various stories (true and possibly embellished...) around his life. If you enjoy his novels, I'd definitely recommend it.
