Here ya go...first a PSA for the Zippo purist. The following photos may contain graphic images of Zippo desicration. Viewer discretion is advised. The first photo shows the date code of (F V) from June 1989. I was stationed in Germany at the time and bought it, at the PX. I was a single, 24 year old Seargant who enjoyed Marlboros and the occasional clove cigarette. It went into my pocket that day and 31 years later it's still there. I quit smoking the coffin nails 18 years ago and still carried it. The only thing I've carried longer is the P38 I was given by my drill instructor in August 1983. The second image is the "engraving" I did. They may not be very professional, but the looked pretty good with a half bottle of vodka encouraging me. My nickname at the time "Dinky Dau" may mean something to "didimauw". It summed me up pretty accurately at that point in my life. The "be the circle", well that's a story better told in person after several adult beverages while holding a large bowl of slow burning tobacco. Enough to say that it was a profound philosophy I developed while wandering the streets of Munich at 3am....I may have been a little drunk. Irregardless of it's conception I still try to live by. The stories this lighter could tell are the stories of my life; many good, some bad and a few I'd rather forget, but none that I'd change.

I tried scratching my initials in my armor Zippo, with barely any luck ( maybe cause the "armor"?). I'm thinking of trying again with a Dremel or something, as this one I'm not getting rid of, and I won't be using another Zippo untill this one needs to go back in for the hinges again lol. Not only have I bought it and been using it since 2012, it's also my daughter's birth year lighter. If that's even a thing....

One I bought for my dad in the early '90s. Thinking about getting a pipe insert for it.
Sending off another one of my grandfather’s Zippos for repair. Let’s see what they can do with this one. The lid won’t close right.

I must add to this ever winding thread that I am now on board Embers' constant going on about using a regular Zippo with the wick drawn up slightly above the chimney.
It works like a charm, and better than the pipe insert IMO. Better in wind and more focused.
By accident I bought one that's a 1935 replica, but I like it.
I can't post a video here, but the picture shows the wick a couple of millimeters above the rim. I'll try try to take a picture of me actually lighting my pipe.
I'm struggling to find any usefulness to this picture, but here it is.
Actually I think the pipe inserts sometimes make for a huge uncontrollable flame. Just too much airflow, I guess.
I'll have to try it. I ordered a regular Zippo from them, when I got mine fixed, just for this reason. Lol
Ha! The lid broke off mine, so I thought I'd try something new. Great minds, you know...
Big flame and doesn't go out when turned sideways.
The pipe insert is much like a Nimrod lighter. Difficult to see where the flame is when drawing.
I do prefer large flames though.
