The Pipes Magazine Radio Show – Episode 4

We can’t believe it is already the 4th Pipes Magazine Radio Show. Our featured guest tonight is Professor & Composer Dan Locklair. Mr. Locklair is Composer-in-Residence and Professor of Music at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is also a pipe smoker. It should be quite an interesting conversation talking about pipes and music. On past shows we talked about some basics of pipes, such as differences between factory and artisan pipes, and estate pipes. Now it’s time to talk tobacco basics. We will also have a brief report on The C.O.R.P.S. Pipe Show that took place in Richmond, Virginia last weekend, as well as the mailbag and Brian’s rant to conclude the show.

Tonight’s music will include selections from Dan Locklair and Keith Moore. Keith worked in the pipe business for years at Uptown’s Smoke Shop in Nashville and we are pleased to debut his latest musical number right here on The Pipes Magazine Radio Show.

We’d like to welcome back 4noggins.com as our first direct radio show sponsor, and thanks to Missouri Meerschaum for coming on board as well. Listen for the debut of their new Corn Cob Pipe ad as well.

We hope you enjoy our 45-minute show produced just for you—the pipe smoker and collector. The following link will launch a pop-up player. Alternatively, you can download the show in iTunes after the initial broadcast is complete here.

  • The afternoon delight sound clip was super funny. I also thought the show was very educational.

  • Good show as usual. Afternoon delight bit made my day because it is one of my favorite movies.

  • Great show, as always. Dan’s music is great! If you had lied to me and told me that the first piece was a new John Williams composition, I would have believed you…

  • Well, that was the fastest 45 minutes I spent today. All the interviews zip past so quickly. I wish more time was allocated for them.

  • The fourth show was another good one. Enjoyed the music, the interview and the rant. The educational segment to begin the show is really good.

  • I loved the rant. Explains why Brian doesn’t want a webcam… he’d had to put tape on his pipes!

  • Another great show, thanks Brian and Kevin. The afternoon delight bit was funny. The interview with Dan was very well done. The music was good, not my usual genre, but I can appreciate it for the talent involved in creating it.

  • Awesome…awesome show! I going to enjoy your discussions on tobacco. I love the idea of an “interview” being just a couple of guys talking while enjoying smoking their pipes. The interview with Dan was great! And the music was right down my alley. I’m definitely going to look up Dan’s music on the web. Thanks!

  • Enjoying the shows and for your time and effort. Find myself looking forward to Thursdays and the next podcast. Maybe an interview with someone from Missouri Meerschaum in the future?

  • Although probably in the minority; I could do with less Music and slapstick inserted. But, I’m more of a “talk show” kinda guy.

  • Really enjoy the podcasts, especially the educational segment in the beginning. One suggestion–maybe it’s my player, but it seems like the volume of the audio (I think they call it “bumper” music?) between segments is louder than the segments themselves, so it’s a little jarring, especially the one that sounds like spinning a radio dial. The content is great though, keep up the good work!
