So, down here in Texas it is starting to warm up quite a bit (understatement). When sitting on the back patio in the evenings when the temperature starts to get bearable (lower 90's) I like to have a cool drink and smoke my pipe. The humidity and heat can wreak havoc on one's tobacco. So, choosing a nice, cool burning pipe that you don't worry about if the wind should char the top a little, is a must. Lately, I've been... well, dare I say it?... (GULP)... I've been reaching for a... okay, I'll admit it... I've been reaching for a COB!

I’m prone for you pipestud. I have 6 cobs and have to pray to bring myself to smoke any of them. But I’m in Georgia, so hot and muggy is the summer norm, just like you. Sometimes it’s necassry to bite the bullet.

Understanding the value of a cob requires disregarding the disdain of the many for the truth apprehended only by the few, that they are both cheap and effective pipes. Welcome, sir, to the exalted company!

I fully agree that cobs are both cheap and effective pipes. I just don't care for them.

I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

You must really love your cob. From what I can see you're always selling off your nice briars, but never the cobs....

Prayer was attempted, but I received an error message stating Due to high temperature and humidity levels at the recipient’s location, divine intervention is unavailable at this time. Please try again in the fall.

Well, the best I can do is enjoy a cool evening smoke in a briar and keep you in my thoughts. Here in Germany it got up to about the mid 60s today. Alright, here goes. HU Director's Cut loaded in the Charatan's. Good luck.

What I wrote earlier. Well. You just remember when I'm trying to smoke a pipe in blowing snow and cold and sleet come December.

A cob, especially an MM will never let you down. I gravitated to them early because they were cheaper and they had the best reviews. I've yet to find a pipe that smoked better.

Yep those white dot pipes burn everything to a fine ash that can be used for pipe mud. Good call.

I hope I didn't offend anyone by calling for an exorcism, but I am in the middle of spending a week in DC and the need for an exorcism keeps coming to mind.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Exorcisms, prayers, chants, pipe burnings to make pipe mud, even a name change to Cobstud will all be taken into consideration. I am truly humbled by your concern for my situation. Is this not the greatest pipe Internet forum in the world, or what? God bless you all!

I did the same thing Steve. It was hotter than a jalapeño enema in Ft Worth. So I smoked some Dunbar in my MM Mark Twain while sitting in front of a fan on the porch. No shame.

pipestud, sitting outside in the 90 degree heat, say it ain't so. I thought you were a real Texan and smoked in his own home. Now I find out you can't smoke in your own house because of the little woman? The horror, the horror.

Harris, I never said that. I'm not feline whupped like some of our poor members here. I'm inside all dadgum day working. So, I enjoy a peaceful sit on my patio on tolerable evenings, watching the birds fly by and the coastal growing in my back pasture (among the wild mesquite). I admit that I am usually sitting out there with my... uh, cob... and a cold drink while contemplating whether to haul out the tractor and mow that stuff as my wife has commanded. Usually, the cob and the drink win out until my wife makes her second appearance on the patio.
