Very fancy, and the wide mouth top will prove to be convenient for loading a pipe.
I hope it seals well. (I'm a Mason jar guy myself, but your canister looks really neat.)

I just buy some of those cheap glass jars with a rubber seal around the lid, they're like 1.50 a pop at Walmart...

You can see what they look like in This PIcture!

Mason jars and bale top jars, mason jars and bale top jars.... that is all!

I was researching this on line a few weeks ago and found an article that said to never re-use a lid with any rubber in its construction if it had been used previously for pickles.Apparently,no matter how well you clean it,the dill flavor always find its way into the tobacco.I must admit that the article was referring to long term storage in regard to my post and interest on tobacco prohibition.

I have been buying those as well Bubba, they work beautifully.
I think we probably need to keep this to ourselves.... The wonderful world of repackaging being what it is, if word gets out that they make great tobacco jars.... well they will jump up in price.

In a pinch, I've used Smucker's Preserves jars. They hold 2+ oz. nicely and seal well, with no hint of foreign odors.
I've had tobacco dry out when relying on the plastic lids provided with tins; so when I open a tin, I transfer the
    contents to a jar immediately.

I've also had good luck rubbing the rim of a tin with wax (bee's or candle), and pressing aluminum foil over it
-- snapping the plastic lid back on over the whole affair. But for me, jars are the way to go, plus, you can see
the contents without opening the container, which is the nice feature of Juozapas' new canister.

For bulk storage, I use wide mouth quart Mason jars. For every day use, I decant tobacco from the Mason jars into these.

This is a 28 oz jar with screw top lid Herself found at one of those Dollar stores. She bought 10 of them for me.

I've always been crazy but it's kept me from going insane.

We have "Dollar Stores" here in Barrie,Ontario,Canada.....they have all kinds of containers. I guess, like the other members pointed out, that it's important that it has a proper and good seal. This will ensure its freshness. I like to turn the canister over a few times...just to keep the moisture consistency....works great so far !!

Found those jars at my Wally world but here in Jersey they want about 6 a pop for them. Will have to save my pennies(and lay off my pad and tad issues) and pick up a few.

I just bought a twelve pack of better homes and gardens pint jars for $7 at walmart. All of the canning stuff is on sale right now. I saw the ones you were talkig about Bubba but they were $2-$3 each and it was cheaper to buy the twelve pack. My girlfriend also really loves the design of them and the included recipes. Though, she will probably steal half of them haha.

For me the best are the glass, spring clasped, rubber sealed canning jars like you can see on the middle shelf. They are totally air tight. Unless you open them regularly, they do not need any humidification.

    Nice! I've kayaked the sound.

So the funniest thing, my mother never ceases to astound me. We were chit-chatting and she asked how the pipe smoking was going, and I asked her about storage jars. I somehow never thought about the fact that she's an expert at canning and preserves! She started rattling on about more information than I've seen in complete editions of Encyclopedia Britannica, and I'd like to share a couple choice tidbits with you all here.

Always boil to sterilize, a dishwasher just doesn't cut it. And yes, sterility is important especially for long-term storage.
Bail-top jars are great if they aren't going to be moved around much, but screw-on lids are best for the longest term storage.
Ball mason is her preferred brand. None of this new-fangled foreign crap (her words! )
A rubber seal rubbed lightly with beeswax and/or vaseline will last indefinitely. She's sure that's what they used in the pyramids (hey I'm not gonna dispute my mother ). When using bail-top jars she prefers the silicon rubber gaskets. She'll also coat the glass jar thread, bails and screw lids with wax to prevent corrosion!
Regarding transportation--if you ever need to move your jars from their cool dark cellar, move them in a igloo-type cooler. If you really want to age it, protect it.

There was a bunch of other stuff, but I think I covered most of the salient points. I hope this helps or inspires some of y'all!

Sure are, unclearthur. Reminds me of taking her to the Dali museum; her idea of art is crochet and Franklin Mint dolls, yet she loved discovering Dali--her mind was totally blown. One of our best-ever bonding experiences.

Back to the jars, I spent some time looking at what's available online and notice that unless a jar's specifically sold for canning you're probably not getting a jar capable of a hermetic (air-tight) seal. Stick with canning supplies if you're looking to seriously store your weed.

I got one that's very inexpensive. If you guys' wife is like mine, she always buys candles, you know the scented ones with the glass lids on them? she always washes them out and puts them out in the bar with the lids and said that they make ggod candle holders for outside and the lid keeps the rain off. Well me get to thinking, these things have a rubber seals to keep the scent of the candle, then it should work to keep tobacco fresh too and it works great. There is no resudual oder from the candle the glass does not hold the scent, and so far I have around 10-15 of them and they hold a good amount of baccy too.

    All very interesting...

I've begun using Mason jars for all my tobacco I plan to age.
For a few aromatics I'm not really into, I'm using bail-top jars like yachtexplorer. I figure they are so damp that even if I open the jar occasionally there will be no great loss of moisture; saves me Mason jars, too. I'm also going to put some bulk tobaccos into those bail-tops for "immediate" smoking.

I don't have a big selection of tobacco yet. I started out using mason jars, but my wife said they didn't look good sitting out. She went to wal-mart and bought me some clear jars with a nice silver screw on lid. They hold about 2 oz a piece which is perfect since thats about all I buy at a time. (She was right they do look better.)
