@ Al.
The Italian Briar Grabow’s and Meer-lined Grabow’s came from the factory void of any spade logo on the stems.
@ Shawn
Are you starting a separate thread for the before/after contest entries?
I set aside my first 2 entries that I dug out of my fixer-upper box. I bought a blue spade on eBay for 9.99.

8 days left, remember to post your pics on the vote thread here: http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/whats-under-that-grabow-contest-photo-and-vote-thread
Best of luck, hopefully this will be something we do more often with different pipes.
Nice job Monkfish, that is a cool shape

Yellow spades were also used for Riviera, earlier Savoy and earlier Bucko.
Here is the pipe I'll enter...

Thanks, Uper, the Continental line had some snazzy shapes.
Joe, somehow knew you snagged that tapered stem 83. Saw the auction after it closed so it won't be held against you but if there's another out there it's mine. Not playing just posting pictures but Joe needs to be handicapped if he's to participate, only fair.

Nicely done monk! An Eldorado poker... where did you find that unicorn? Btw, you should definitely throw your hat into the ring. We’ll just count second as first place for the rest of us humans since Joe is in the contest now... 8O
@monk

Totally off topic, but do you have any red or green spade pipes to trade or sell? Posted a want ad on DGCF but no takers.

Thanks, Dave, got lucky with a buy now listing. Joe needs to do this one handed or blindfolded with video documentation as proof otherwise my hat stays with me. Got enough pipes already though I wouldn't turn down a Grabow sandblast
No Red or Green spades, Dave, what about a Ringmaster bowl sans stem? Think it would have had a green spade, maybe... Yours if you want to mess with it.

Hi everyone. This is my first post. This thread and contest is a great idea looks like so much fun. I wish I would have seen it sooner. Not that I could have competed with the fine work others did, but it still would have been fun to participate. I've only been smoking a pipe for a few years but I started out buying the cheapest Dr. Grabows I could find and restoring them. Then I got hooked on restoring estate pipes. I especially like the Color Series pipes and am working on getting all the colors. Here is a Viscount Color pipe that I bought for $2.99 and redid. It smokes great and looks nice if you like these kinds of pipes:

Welcome cwarmouth - that's a heck of a 1st post! Please do a thread on restoring that color pipe, I'm curious how you freshened the factory color so beautifully.

Wow that looks great Warmouth, and welcome.
I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Grabow poker. That's one I might would actually spend money on (other than for contests)

Excellent work on the color Viscount.

They're worth it.

Gosh, thanks for the warm welcome and compliments. Means a lot coming from you guys. I would be honored to start a thread on refurbing a Color Dr. Grabow. I think what I might do is try to pick up another old nasty cheap beater and do a build-along thread.
Also, I thought the contest was already over. Can I enter this pipe or are entries supposed to be restored during the duration of the contest? I did this one a year ago. No biggie either way.

Cwarmouth, they do need to be restored during the time of the contest.
Dave, that is crazy. I'm going to have to start looking for one now.
