I became familiar with Larrysson Pipes (Paul Hubartt) a little over a year ago thanks to @hoosierpipeguy . I'm really not quite sure if Mark blessed me, or cursed me when he showed a few Larrysson pipes he owned, and informing me of Paul's website. After seeing Paul's work first hand, I instantly fell in love with his artistic impression, and the design of his pipes. Within just a few months, I had acquired 5 pipes. I was totally hooked. (shown below) I need more......I must.....have more.

Then....like a bomb going off on my lust for Larrysson pipes. Some unfortunate news began to spread around the pipe community. It was eventually confirmed on the Larrysson Pipes website. Paul was getting out of the pipe making business. He was starting a new business/career. Lucky for me, I had been in contact with him during the summer and fall about doing some commissioned pieces. After discussing with Paul in the winter. I was able to secure a few of the last pipes Paul was ever going to produce. It was also nice to be able to get a few commissioned pieces done on his last tour. Here are a few pipes from the last 2 batches recieved. Currently, his last 4 pipes ever were just completed, and are on their way here from across the pond.

I feel pretty sure having commissions rolling in was a boon to what turned out to be his last years. I bought a pipe from Bob Hayes, an award winning N.C. carver, the last year he was at the TAPS pipe show, and I feel lucky to have done so. He looked good, young, like he was going to be around for some decades more.

Niiiice! The Cavalier Tree Bark hybrid is Crown Grade. The last pipe Paul finished was a Wax Drip that is in the group of 4 pipes arriving soon. It is also Crown Grade. They should arrive today or tomorrow sometime, looking at the tracking number.

4!!! Good for you, my sandblast saddle dublin was also from the tail end of his production. When I bought the smooth dublin I was sure that Larrysson pipes would be my next big collecting focus but I never really got the opportunity to buy another until the end, just six weeks ago.

In his 6th picture in his opening post the OP displays the serrated, ridged, "bark-like" rusticated/textured finish that sticks in my mind as the maker's signature finish, which I believe he first used to resemble a tree? I can't remember. I just know that when I saw it here that I had seen it before. Very distinctive, very capable.

Sequoia Tree Bark. The 2 Pokers above have the same finish. ;)
