TV News is only incidentally about news, as TV Sports is only incidentally about sports. Their main function is entertainment and providing billions in revenue to broadcasting. You can thank Roone Arledge for for pretty mannequins substituting for journalists and a baseball players union that supports steroid use.
That didn't take long!
More than likely it's been in the works for a while. I now know another way to save $49.95 a year.

I agree Jesse. O'Reilly talked all of the time about his website and becoming a "premium member" and all of the benefits and gifts. He has likely been building this as a backdoor to get out of Fox with and between that and his income at Fox, had little reason to restrain himself in his behavior.
If he has even only 30,000 members, that amounts to 1.5 million in revenue. Not exactly chump change, especially with what he already has in the bank. And now he doesn't even have to leave his house.

TV news is specifically geared towards turning politics into emotional discussions in the vein of sports. Problem is, if the Cubs win the World Series, no one loses their health insurance. Turns out if the wrong team in politics wins, they do.
TV news - as a whole - is a poison, on both sides. Please stop watching it. It's bombastic bullshit designed to rile us all up.

I don't give a shit how many people lose their health insurance. In fact, the more, the better; getting health insurance out of health care is the best thing that could ever happen in the world of medicine. Extorting the populace by saying you need health insurance to afford health care is like saying you need life insurance to afford to live. The fact that in so many people's minds "health insurance" = "health care" is evidence of one of the biggest marketing-cum-brainwashing scams in history.

+10, aldecaker.
And once you force individual health into a collective, then the door is open to regulation of personal choice and behavior, and closed to individual freedoms. Which brings this thread full circle and on topic.

EDIT: The only legitimate role for any type of insurance is to insure against a catastrophic event...not as a means of paying for every little thing. If people used their house insurance to purchase doorknobs, doorknobs would cost at least a thousand dollars.

fishingandpipes - sound advice on how far not to go from someone who never left.
The fact that in so many people's minds "health insurance" = "health care"
When I was a kid, I had healthcare. I called a doctor, said I was sick, he told me to be there in two hours. I came down, he was there smoking a cigarette, his wife was the nurse, he found my diagnosis and I got some medicine and it usually fixed me right up within a few hours.
Now I have health insurance and I have to call the insurance company to see if everything is covered, then I have to go to my PCP who doesn't actually ever do anything, to get a referral to the real doctor who is a specialist. He can see me in a week, the room is full of patients, I have to give my life history, the doctor is running 45 minutes late and when I finally get to see him, he pulls the splinter out of my toe, gives me a script for some salve, and tells me to follow up with him in another six weeks to see how I'm healing.

Confusing pundits with news is a terrible mistake. I'm the first to suggest questioning the news and doing your own research. But, pundits such as O'Reilly, Maher, et al are commentators simply pontificating/bloviating entertainers, not journalists. God knows there are few objective reporters anymore so cherish those which exist. Their herd is mighty small and shrinking all the time. Journalism schools produce few objective reporters. Publishers don't want to hire them. So they will become extinct soon.
You guys gotta shop around for health insurance. Close to seventy thou to repair my hip a couple of months ago. Between my provider and Medicare I'm out of pocket a mere $1200.00. I also donated $500.00 to the Municipal ambulance service. Good kids, very professional.
So... a big thank you those of you who are employed and paying US taxes. I do so appreciate your efforts. :worship:

I agree that medical insurance should be stopped. That way, a lot of the population will die in the ensuing chaos since they won't be able to find, much less afford, treatment and everything will be so much better. You might get lucky and your neurosurgeon will accept a few chickens as payment. Seems eminently sensible.

Perfect example of an outlandish, fictional cost created by insurance industry control of health care. If it weren't for insurance it would have cost but a fraction of that amount.
And if all of the payments made to insurance companies went instead into people's own personal investment accounts, they could pay the entire cost themselves and still come out ahead of how they're currently being fleeced by the insurance industry.
But we've all been conditioned to believe that such costs are inevitable, and that we could never get by without insurance companies to manage our money for us.

I suspect that the culprit is malpractice insurance. The rates on those policies soared into the stratosphere following huge jury awards, fueling the spiral in health costs. Add to that greed, opportunism, predatory practices like "drive by" doctoring and a lack of checks and balances on the medical/industrial complex and we have what we have.

OK, just when you guys really had me convinced that there was something amiss at Fox News, and I was watching a video the other day where one of the legal teams against O'Reilly made her case saying that X person at MSNBC had never been accused of sexual harassment, that Y person at CNN had never been accused, that Z person at Fox News (I remember it being Sean Hannity) had never been accused, so why all the charges against O'Reilly? The ol' smoke/fire thing--- now SEAN HANNITY has likewise been accused of sex harassment!
Harassment Suit
Now, I'm finding this real hard to believe. Hannity has zero past episodes of such things! I'm starting to think someone is going right down the line top to bottom here destroying lives and careers. Something is fishy here.
