Here is some "Black Gold Plus" I picked up an oz sample from a local cigar shop and have been trying to make it last!!
I didn't get it from this dealer but they have this description on a tobacco of the same name: "Our rare fired cured Green River Burley, hand blended with Virginia Flake"

I wonder how many people (non pipe smokers, of course) would consider all of us really geeky for enjoying posts like this.

I can hear the comments: "Man, they're so weird they ogle pictures of their tobacco blends!"

Let them think what they want; some of these should be in centerfolds!

Great thread, misterlowercase--kudos!

Wonderful to see all those tobacco porn pics from the vault. I'll add a sneak peek at one of my little side projects: the opening of a tin of circa 1960 Cope's Escudo at last summer's NY Pipe Club picnic. The hand model was lestrout, photo credit goes to Patrick Grant. I'm still working on a more accurate dating of the tin, but I've narrowed it to late 1950's / early 1960 based on the tin art and wording, printing process, tin size, and company address listing. Jon Guss has been invaluable in this department, and has gone to absurd lengths on the topic of dating Sobranie--check him out in Neil Roan's blog.

Cortez: Miss Sothron already calls me a "pipe geek" and refers to this place as "pipe geek dot com".
(I then remind her that she attends both chicken and rabbit shows...)
LOVE this thread.

That's no Escudo. That's a space station!
Look how dark it is...
Thanks for taking the time to post these pics ladies and gents.

Thanks Lawrence! I've returned from the land of all work and no play.

That's a tin of circa 1960 Cope's Escudo. The hand model was lestrout, photo credit goes to Patrick Grant. Opening this tin was quite a rush, and everyone agreed that it was a transcendental smoke. Even a confirmed aro smoker (and vaper hater) went bonkers over it.

I know. I was riffing on Star Wars.
Out of curiosity how dry was it? Sounds like a fantastic experience.

Damn!!!!

romeowood, thanks for posting that, I bet it was transcendental, even moreso because it was shared amongst the brothers for a grand smoke!

I found a neat brief little article that's pretty cool, googtrans from German:

......What is escudo?.....
