Half & Half zippy on the tongue / alkaline?

I’m a little past halfway through my first pouch of it, was a bit zippy on the tongue first couple of smokes.
Interesting change of pace now and again. Pouch lives in my truck console now for a quick commuter codger scoop.

Zippy on the tongue is just the right expression. I'm wondering if this is an alkaline reaction? i.e. the H&H smoke being alkaline in relation to mouth pH. Anyone know about this kind of chemistry and is there a fun and easy way to test this at home?
