Other than what I would call the "pores opening up" the pipe is unchanged. I'm starting to think that the assumed practices of pipe maintenance might be a little misplaced. Remember when cleaning the bowl and stem with running water started a firestorm here?

This cheap pipe is really impressing me with the fight its putting up.

Actually, the color has improved with the water test, revealed the woodpecker rustication nicely. The graceful lines on that stem work & rustication indeed make this a unique piece.

Re cleaning method, If I boil one of my perfect pipes, it may reveal pits I pretend are not there already.

This pipe has been through everything! Blasted by heat! Frozen solid! Pounded by a hammer! Boiling water! But how will it fare being driven over?

The before:

Being placed under the tire:

After being driven over (both axles):

Looks like the stem broke, but otherwise the pipe is in one piece! But of course, back to the lab to investigate.

The stem broke, no real surprise there, but the only damage to the bowl is this dent in the side:

This has got to be one of the most resilient pipes I've ever seen

Still looks smokeable to me. Smooth down the break on the stem, heat & reshape. File down near the end to create a button (or cover with a Softy bot) & Wallah!

But, I’d say there are a few of us that pipe while on a riding mower.

Given the swirling blades no wooden pipe would withstand a good haircut. Or, could the Ali survive?
