    Canada customs returning package unopened

My last 8oz tobacco order from 4noggins, a couple weeks ago, was marked "return to sender" with the description of "hobby supplies and accessories" circled. Maybe the description was not specific enough? Anyone else experiencing this?

Native reserve smoke shacks in Canada

Does anyone buy their tobacco from these smoke shacks rather than ordering from the US? Curious because I've been reading that over 1/2 the tobacco in Ontario is sold illegally, not so prevalent here in the West (BC) Would be great if they would do mail order - no more worries about duty!

Canadian Duty Taxes of Mail Orders

What province Kanada? Here in BC the duty jacks up the price of 8oz to $140, $40 MORE than what it costs locally. If you refuse to pay duty on the package, I believe it just gets destroyed, not returned to the sender.

Canadian Duty Taxes of Mail Orders

What was the wording on the package's custom declaration? Who did you order from? Did you pay it or tell them to dump it?

Options if order gets caught by Canada Customs

Thanks for the calculation Peckin as unbelievable as it is! That's approx $40 MORE than the local retail price. From the tobacco act, it still appears that the shipment would be destroyed and NOT sent back to the shipper after 60 days - see 7b "(7) Tobacco detained under subsection (6) must be...

Options if order gets caught by Canada Customs

Ok, did some more research: It appears the tobacco would be disposed by the government if taxes are not paid (7b) . 7A makes no sense to me, it seems they would return the tobacco even if tax is paid? The 23.9cents/g ($6.44/oz) tax payable may not be current, the document is dated 1996 and...

Options if order gets caught by Canada Customs

Peckinpahhombre, I am in BC, I would appreciate seeing your calculation and source. Believe me, I have tried but it is very confusing, as you say even the customs office does not always calculate correctly. I only order 8oz (227g) per order, $12 for the tobacco and $14 for shipping. I did...

Options if order gets caught by Canada Customs

Thanks for the info Junkyard... The cost of lodging etc would far exceed the saving with a limit of importing 200g (7oz) of tobacco. The highest duty I have seen mentioned on these forums was $9/oz but the info was secondhand. Given that figure, a single 16oz order could potentially cost over...

Options if order gets caught by Canada Customs

I'd like to hear from someone who has had a shipment tagged by the CRA: 1. Are you REQUIRED to pay the duty/taxes OR can you refuse the package and pay nothing 2. What were the actual duties/taxes paid 3. Are there consequences for the shipper if they misrepresent the contents of the shipment...

    Duty on shipments to Canada

What are your options if your tobacco shipment gets tagged by CRA? Are you required to pay the duty or can you just refuse the package? Are you then marked for closer scrutiny for future packages? So far, I have limited my orders from 4noggins to 8oz which have yet to be tagged, but I'd like to...
