Please talk to me about clay pipes ...

You know I am glad you brought this up. I have totally forgotten that I bought a clay pipe in Williamsburg years ago and never really used it to smoke. Now I'm going to try it. Thanks for the reminder.

    Meers... why the rage?

For mine, as long as I don't puff on it too quickly the smoke can be very cool, maybe it's just me. At the same time, I like the fact that I don't have to break it in, keep a certain tobacco with it, etc. This is also why I like corncob pipes.

Tamping method inadequate? When do you tamp?

I generally tamp when my bowl is about to go out, or when I think it needs it. Then again, I'm a newbie, but that is how I do it. You gotta find what works for you. Over time you will develop a sense of when you need to tamp.

New Pipe Smoker Looking for Advice

There are some sites that advertise here that sell sampler packs and that is how I got started. For what it's worth though I have a few briar pipes, 1 meerschaum, and a corn cob. I must admit that I get a very good, cool smoke out of a corn cob and it only costs $6-15. Just remember to take...

What's your poison of choice when smoking a pipe?

Gotta say Dunhill Vanilla. That is some awesome tobacco! There have been some others I really liked, but since I didn't keep track of the name I unfortunately don't remember. Dunhill Vanilla is the latest and right now is my favorite. I'm still a beginner, but whatever. My only problem is that...

List Your Other Hobbies / Interests

My main hobby is shooting to include black powder and air rifles. My second hobby is playing guitar. My third is actually playing Call of Duty on Xbox 360 usually only a couple of times a month though.

    Knives

Depends on what I'm doing. Mostly I carry around a spring assisted SOG that was given to me by my co-workers for my b-day a few years ago. I sometimes carry around a Masters of Defense (MoD) as well. This is when I'm at work though.

September, 2011 - What are you Smoking? II

Not smoking anything currently, but the last bowl I smoked was the Dunhill Vanilla. I prefer aromatic tobaccos. Just like the way they smell. Need to get some for my father in law too. That tobacco is very good at least in my honest opinion.

Since my ADD is about to kick in...

March 2010 - What are you smoking?

You know I just got some pipes in the mail that I ordered. I ordered a couple of corn cob, 2 meershaum, and a briar (La Rocca). The tobacco I am currently smoking is a sampler with Treasure chest (mild), My Pleasure(mild), Cherry Vanilla (bolder...Like this one a lot). I actually just started...

    Re-Hydrating Pipe Tobacco

I am in a desert environment and purchased a sampler pack of tins. What should I do to preserve the tobacco in such a dry climate? From what little I have read, pipe tobacco and cigars seem to utilize different approaches. I don't want to over moisten, but at the same time I don't have access...
