    Reverse Calabash

I have a Radice reverse calabash "Tubos" shape. I find it wonderfully effective in cooling and drying the smoke, far much more so than a Pete system. It really takes the sting out of bitey blends, although I find it can be picky about which tobaccos taste best in it. Some it can really mute the...

    How many cross-smokers out there?

Started with cigars (after a brief flirtation with coffin nails in my youth) and still have well over 100 in the humidor. Haven't bought a cigar since catching the pipe bug. There are times I prefer a cigar for convenience and the completely disposable nature, like when out and about at work...

    Am I Crazy

The line between brilliance and insanity is a fine one. Just don't put your pants on with the pipe stuff still in your utility briefs. :)

    Askwith "Devil Anse" pipe

First smoke almost done and it was awesome. No heat issues. Very handy little pipe. Now to find a miniature pipe rack!

    Askwith "Devil Anse" pipe

Aha! Dark fired Kaintuck would have been perfect but alas it didn't occur to me. I'm smoking a bowl of Chief Catoonah "Virginia Blend" and it's working out very well. This little pipe just wants to stay lit, and is smoking col and dry. Effortless draw and a comfy clencher for those so...

    Askwith "Devil Anse" pipe

I will admit to a little worry here... although I have not experienced heat or bite issues with other short pipes, including an Askwith chubby morta pot. This however is the tiniest pipe in my collection. I'm hoping the wide open draw and quality briar will eliminate my concerns. I'll report...

    Askwith "Devil Anse" pipe

I highly recommend pro pipemaker Chris Askwith. Here's a "Devil Anse Hatfield" pipe based on the Costner series he did for me with a yellow swirl stem and light colored sandblast finish. I absolutely love it. I'm about to give it it's maiden voyage... now what tobacco to select?

    Great News for Pipe Tobacco!

I'm of the "We dodged a bullet (whew!) but there are still five more shots left in the gun" camp. I won't stop cellaring. Interestingly the import tax on pipe tobacco isn't that high. I think one can bring in about 4 lbs. duty free, and after that it is taxed... at a pretty minimal rate...

    Yummy Habanero Peppers!

Her YouTube video in which she takes the "Cinnamon Challenge" with unfortunate results is even more sublime.

    Now I really did it

If my Ashton lore is correct, Ashton sources their briar from two or three different regions. That, along with their oil curing process, results in some hard briar... Too hard in some cases to take a good blast. The Pebble Grain is a proprietary process by which examples too hard Or dense to...

    Radice and L'Anatra opinions?

Radice pipes... I have 5 or 6. All are absolutely fabulous, from new Rinds to estate Barks. I don't have any smooths... Need to rectify that! No experience with the duck head hood ornament brand but have read only great things.

    Favorite Pipe Material

    1. Briar or Morta, depending on individual sample. 2. Meerschaum (Turkish or African) 3. Meerschaum (Mizzou) 4. Other (Pear etc.) If I had to pick only one twould be briar.

    Lewis & Clark Air Rifle

There's a guy... Is it Dave Quackenbush? Who does hand made external lock air rifles in the old style like that. Mostly one-offs and pricey. Grizzly, right back atcha brother! Edit: here ya go lifeon2: http://www.quackenbushairguns.com/liege_lock.html

    Lewis & Clark Air Rifle

PaPipeguy, my response was directed at the "too bad we can't have something like this today" part of your post. If it would make you feel more 200 years ago, they do have hand pumps available to fill the air cylinder... Just as much work today as in Lewis and Clark's time. Grizzly86, tell your...

    Lewis & Clark Air Rifle

Something like that does exist, actually... .357 cal repeater, integrally silenced (ok without ATF tax stamp because it's not a firearm) and uses SCUBA air. Rogue air rifle

Great Local Media Article on Pipes Smokers & Paul's Pipe Shop, MI

Great article! Am I the only one who was a little amused and simultaneously a little sad at the captions underneath the photo stream attached to the article? Joe Blow, 23, is one of the growing number of young people interested in using a pipe to smoke tobacco.... Amused at the pains the author...

    1858 New Army

Those are fine and with a conversion cylinder kit will be good in .45 Colt. If you like that format, it's worth the extra bucks to get a Ruger Old Army if you can find one. I love mine.
