    Live and learn.

follow up, not bumping... In my effort to make this pipe work for me, I think I hit on the solution as alluded to on my earlier post. For my smoking style, tobacco condition and what not, I only fill my bowl about half way and lightly pack it. For me, the bowl seems like its too deep and...

    Live and learn.

Thanks for the supportive comments. I didn't post any picture or be specific as I well know that others experiences may be different with this product and do not want to trash talk any manufacturer. So what is the purpose then you might ask for a rant? I guess its just to inform any newbies...

    Live and learn.

For a year now I have been looking at radiator pipe thinking that the design and features must make it a good smoker. I held off, but kept running into it on Amazon where it just kept working on me. Something about it seemed to convince me that it must be good as the price was also quite high...

    Why Now? Cob Problems.

Every single one of my cob pipes are now splitting vertically. These are seriously deep and long cracks which are basically destroying them. I never had this happen in about a year of smoking, but they are all doing in over last couple of months. No change in tobacco or habits, only I am not...

I Am Afraid My Pipes Are Ruined, Looking for Advice

Gee, I think I would actually enjoy the resulting flavors. Back in "the day" of the 70's, I used that form of leaf a lot and found the taste quite appealing. It would eventually wear out just through normal tobacco use I would think, so just ride it out a bit. Too little resin to affect you...

    Jar fog.

I guess it may be the glycol as it is kind of a goopy blend. I did a microscopic exam of an emulsified sample and don't really see anything unusual. Some bacteria, but nothing remarkable under a 2k power. But its really tasty! I wiped it out and will wait and see.

    Jar fog.

I keep all my blends in jars regardless of what it is. I noticed that one of them which is a black Cavendish appears to have moisture fogging the inside of the jar. Is this indicative of some sort of fermentation? It seems you would need a level of heat inside to cause the moisture to form on...

    Taste developing.

Adding to my previous post, I also find that the smoking session changes in character from the topping rich taste at light-up to the base taste in mid smoke to the either rich or trashy taste of the end of the bowl which depends on many factors like rate of smoking, tobacco type and pipe used...

    Taste developing.

When I started pipe smoking last summer, I hit this board for the first time and watched several videos on tobacco reviews. I was quite mystified by others describing tastes of the various tobaccos. To me, they tasted like "something" but I could not put any words to it and just could not...

    Rum Hurtz.

you may have hit part of it! I dried some out to a level that is not good for most of my blends. powders on rubbing dryness helped a lot. Still a bit strong, but doable. Never thought about the possibility of alcohol as that should have long ago evaporated. I can now see that as possible as...

    Rum Hurtz.

yeah, I will dry it out more. Its not as moist as many of my others though and if I smoked any slower, I will be blowing out into the bowl. it seems the slower I puff, the more pronounced the burn. And I use a Kirsten which helps keep it cool and tried "breath" smoking it as well. The most...

    Rum Hurtz.

I recently discovered a problem with mouth burn. Not the typical tongue bit, but a general irritation of my entire mouth that was starting to make smoking quite problematic. After limiting my tobacco variations a bit and taking more notice, I narrowed it down to Smokers Pride Rum Cured. Looks...

    Pipes n peanut butter.

As an avid pipe smoker, I enjoy smoking many small bowls a day from a variety of my cellar selections. I am more of a topping chaser than just smoking for the sake of smoking. As such, there are times where I am really enjoying the taste, but am on the very edge of going into tongue bit...

    Conical Bowls

Read "Fill the bowl properly" http://www.kirstenpipe.com/singleblog_pipecleaning.html When packing, instead of putting pressure on the tobacco strait down into the bottom center, you use thumb and forefinger and pinch it in more to the sides a bit. After I pack this way, the tobacco is...

    Conical Bowls

I smoked a few more bowls with new pack method on my Kirstens and find I am getting more flavor for a longer time than ever! I tried several different tobaccos so far and see the improvement. My mistake up to now was trying to pack in the center more and more tightly to try to overcome my...

    Keeping Track of Your Tobacco...

ditto on the last post. I am starting to wonder if I will be able to consume it all as it is. I have jarred every single brand over the last year and have been a obsessive buyer.

    Conical Bowls

My thanks to loneredtree for the link to the Kirsten page with directions. I never though of looking for directions on how to smoke a pipe there, as that would be like going to the Ford site to learn how to drive a car. Anyway, using the technique of moistening the bowl and packing to the sides...

    Conical Bowls

I have 3 Kirsten pipes now in my collection. I tend to use them more and more after seeing how much evil smelling yellow brown fluid is removed from each smoke. I feel much better not having all that "poison" sloshing around in my mouth. I have to admit the flavor of my tobaccos is a bit weaker...
