    A Master Penman at Work

I've purchased and used Mr. Sull's home-study materials on learning to write Spencerian script. They are excellent.

Can't Wait for Warm Weather and My New Ashton to Arrive

Gorgeous pipe. Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Jimmy Craig's sandblasts have been improving recently? It seemed to me that when he took over production, he never really got the same kind of deep, gnarly blast that Bill Taylor could. The pipe above (and a few others I've seen in...

    Oil Cured Peterson?

First off, a nod to one of the sponsors. I was on Al Pascia's website last night, and was pleasantly surprised to see a bunch of Petersons that were unlike those I've seen at US retailers. I was even more pleasantly surprised to see that with courier delivery running a mere 10 Euro (about...

    You've Gotta Love Eurocrats

    They're always good for a laugh: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/eu/8897662/EU-bans-claim-that-water-can-prevent-dehydration.html

    Antique Smoking Stand

I can't quite justify it, but someone here is probably going to want this enough to shell out $395: http://www.harpgallery.com/showroom/item11735.html

    Our Best Program Ever

kcghohst, I read through your post too quickly. I missed that he was a founding member of your club. Very cool! If you see him at one of your meetings, please let him know that he has a customer and huge fan within the community here. He was already a bit of a rock star calligrapher in my...

    Our Best Program Ever

Gosh, I wish I could have been there. While I've never been able to attend one of Mr. Sull's seminars, I have purchased and used his video and practice books. It's surprisingly easy to start producing not flawless, but pretty good looking Spencerian handwriting. I highly recommend Mr. Sull's...

    Irish? Scotch? Bourbon?

+1 for the recommendations of Black Bush and Laphroaig. On the Irish side, I'm also a fan of Redbreast. And when I'm drinking Scotch, I find myself reaching for Lagavulin or Ardbeg at least as often as I reach for Laphroaig. Love those Islay peat monsters!

    Favorite Tin Art?

Another classic with the Presby. Here's a related question: The "death threats" that you see on tins sold in the EU or in Canada... like them or hate them? On the one hand, I hate to see "Smoking Kills" obscuring half of a tin of SL. But some of the more hysterical claims related to second...

    Favorite Tin Art?

Hobie1dog--Agreed that a deep blue can look dignified. And I like the color matched with a white or ivory. They may be brighter blue than you're thinking of, but Dunhill Flake and F&T Cut VA plug strike me as very nice looking tins. Schmitzbitz--with you on the Sweet Vanilla Honeydew. And in...

    Favorite Tin Art?

Thanks Hobie1dog. I found that old thread (not sure how to link to it). But it seemed to deal more with antique, out-of-production tins. I was thinking more of currently available tins -- in-production tobacco.

    Favorite Tin Art?

I'm wondering--what tobaccos do you all find to have the most attractive tin art or tin design? What tobaccos do you find to have particularly unattractive tins? Personally, I love the tin designs of Squadron Leader and Grousemoor. And those Dan Tobacco tins with the American Revolution theme...

Pipe Smoking in New Zealand-Am I All but Alone?

OK, so I was just Googling around for a few minutes. I found a grand total of one NZ tobacconist with an online presence. Based in Auckland. Selling tins of Peterson for NZ$69.00. With an exchange rate of about US$.84 to a NZ dollar these days, that's roughly US$58/tin. In the US, you'd pay...
