I don't really collect other than I look for the older silver plated Zippo cases with filigree engraving to convert with a pipe lighter insert. They are pretty hard to find & expensive when you do. I have my eye on a 3 pc set with filigree cigarette case & filigree dress pocket knife. The asking price is expensive so I haven't pulled the trigger yet.
When buying one be sure & check out the hinge thoroughly. If you send in a vintage silver plated case to Zippo under the lifetime guarantee they will no longer spotweld the hinge; they just send you a new lighter & keep the silver plated case.
Welcome to the forum!

I've collected Zippos made in all the decades of my life. They're from the 50's through now. I'm thinking about selling several of them. I have 35 total.

Yeah those silver plated ones are really expensive. You may also buy one of the Armors and use with the pipe insert as well. There are some older Armor models. Actually, I check them like hundred times before buying, I am mostly collecting Marlboro Zippos, German Annuals, some older ones. Having some kind of financial difficulties, so stopped buying right now :)
Thank you very much, nice to meet you!

Are they used or new? Let me know whenever you want to sell. I may be interested in some.

Most of the older armor cases that I usually encounter are badly worn brass cases. I like the filigree engraved silver plate & sterling silver cases more for dress.

you are mostly right, however you may find some good ones. I found one nice Zippo Armor Carved Columns once. it is not that old actually but still nice. Those silver plate & sterling silvers are amazing for sure, but expensive :)

I collect Scripto Vu-Lighters. I have written two eBooks on them one for how to repair and another of how to date them. I also customize some and sell them on ebay as a hobby. I do requests for folks from time to time. I don't advertise here on the forum here out of respect. You can do a search for repairing the Scripto Vu or look for my "Trading Post" site. I'm happy to answer any questions about them you have as well.
I am fascinated by the fact they were made as "throw away" lighters yet mechanically a little complex. They were made from 1955 until 1977. I have a few of the ones which were made for only 3 months which have a unique but actually useless hole in the spring allowing access to a Phillip's heads screw. I also own one of the first Sprito Vu's which is patterned after the actual first patent number. Most we see are of the second patent but early ones still carried the patent of the first which doesn't even look like the second patent. This new patent was chaged on the lighter in 1961. I could go on but I'll stop here so as not to bore the uninterested.

@hawke I have just found a new hobby :) they look amazing. I also collect lighters and matches, I mostly collect Zippos though. Do they use butane as fluid?

Not sure I'd call myself a collector but I have 4 Zippos, all pipe lighters. One is a very old, 1984 I believe brass one, the other three are less than two years old. One is and ugly chrome one with a design on it, one is a matte black textured one that I use daily and the other is a Mossy Oak camo one that also sees daily use. I also bought a nice orange one for wifey to light her cigars with. I will try to post a pick of them soon. :puffy:

Thanks - though it's a bit of a puzzler. It's the one discussed in this (these) thread(s). Sexy shape and a fine smoke whatever it is.

Edit: Short version - only markings are GBD New Era with a hand cut stem and St.Claude - no shape number.
