There's been a few here and there, but they usually don't last long, sometimes leaving on their own accord and other times not.
I was wrong once....only to feel what it was like.
Seriously though a great article. Ive got low grades parked right next to artisan creations and all give me smoking pleasure.
Snobs of all kinds turn up on all forums from time to time, but most get weeded out quickly.

quite frankly im not puffing for someone else's enjoyment. its not so much that i wouldnt enjoy smoking a $500 pipe or a few for that matter. I simply cant afford it, and to look down on any body because of that well thats up to the individual doing the looking. i personaly could care less what someone else thinks of my style or price of the pipe i smoke. the same go's for me i dont care if somebody smokes a piece thats made of gold and angel feathers thats priceless. thats not my concern, as long as they enjoy what they do thats the important thing

Snobbery has no place in the briar brotherhood in my opinion. Not when so many forces are trying to tax our asses into oblivion. Enjoy what you smoke, smoke what you enjoy, and don't break the bank. I think I speak for many when I say we can collectively applaud someone's high-end artisan pipe as much as a simple cob.

BTW, I think I fell in love with one of the pipes in that article photo.....it's the deep chocolate brown bent one with the gold band, directly underneath the C&D U.S.S. Mason tin.... what pipe is that, if I may inquire?

I think you're all wrong. Nothing smokes better than a 200 year old, Sahara dried piece of old briar. Painstakingly carved by a master Italian carver who learned his trade in the salt mines under Mussolini. Adorned with a gold band recuperated from the lost Knights Templar treasure. Above all the amber stem shaped by a Himalayan hermit buddhist monk while chanting imparts mystical powers to the flow of the smoke, resulting in an ever cool and flavorful bliss.
That being said, and I believe someone said it earlier, there's nothing wrong with expressing an opinion as long as it doesn't come at the expense of someone from a differing opinion. It has nothing to do with price or exclusivity. You can have a Dunhill snob put down a Cavicchi snob, and vice versa. Snobbery happens when you consider something from a differing opinion as inferior. Be it because it's more expensive, or cheaper, or made in a different country, or elsewhere, or..... oh well... you get the gist.
I'm now going to have a bowl of 1-Q in a nameless basket with a Shiner.... and then a bowl of 2 year old FVF in a Pete Flame Grain with some Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban

I can't believe anyone would smoke a lowly drugstore corncob pipe when you can get Dunhill Estate pipes on ebay for $1500....

I do have a Dunhill but also Winslow, Peterson, Nording, Ferndown and a meer so, I'm well rounded and there will be more in the future. Now, where did I see that 1961 Dunhill for just $850?

Ignorance can be dealt with. When it comes to stupidity however, the great philosopher Ron White put it best, "You can't fix stupid!".

Turned out most of the guests preferred the $6 bottle of Blue Moon to his $60 Merlot.

Oh, we all have our prejudices. If you dont then you have no philosophy of operation. Even if you hold the live and let live philosophy you still have your own ideology by which you set the guide line for personal limits.
Yes even I, as one who holds the idea of personal freedom of choice as one of the great and sacred rights have prejudices about nearly everything including the bottom and top for quality smoking paraphernalia.

I think we should have an series of articles of Pipe Swap. I think it would be interesting. Take some of the guys here with some exceptional collections of high end pipes and have them smoke a blend in one of their artisan pipes and the same blend in a brand new cob. Have them do reviews of the blend from the two pipes and compare the difference. I think this would be great for guys like Cigarmaster, Bigvan, Peck, Kashir and a few others.
eagle, believe it or not, my collection is not considered high end. Pipes in the 300-400 range are considered mid range, which is where most of my pipes fall. Now peck, bigvan and fish have pipes that are definitely considered high end.
I have smoked a cob and honestly do not care for how they smoke my flakes. I tried it on a few and each time the flakes did not taste like they do with my briars that are broken in and have a good cake. It did smoke Carter Hall ok, but with the way the stems are, it really is not an enjoyable experience for me. I have pipes that I bought on ebay for under 100.00 like an older Upshall that smokes my flakes way better than a cob.

I think your collection is pretty high end and I think the average Joe would too. When I say high end, I mean high quality and something I would want for myself...one day. (Tomorrow would be better, but as with all things, in due time). For me price has nothing to do with "high end." In fact, I tend to cherish the really nice things I get for a steal, vs those I paid a high end price for.
Harris, I appreciate it when you and others take the time to post pictures of your beautiful pipes. It's fun and helps me learn about quality pipes. I have learned so much about the engineering necessary to make a pipe a good smoker from you and others here who discuss the value in buying quality. Your posts of those beautiful Rad pipes has helped me realize that quality of that kind is within my reach. I will eventually buy a pipe in the $400 price range. I am learning my way up to it to ensure that I make a wise decision. Thank you and everyone who share so much here. - bob
